Job Description

Position: Mechanical Design Engineer – Advanced Technology

 

Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada

 

Project: Technology development and manufacturing scale-up of solid oxide stack technology for fuel cell and electrolysis applications

 

Responsibilities:

· Assist in mechanical design and development of solid oxide fuel cell and electrolysis stacks, as well as manufacturing and test equipment including jigs and fixtures

· Realize designs including carrying out procurement, assembly, testing and commissioning activities as required

· Produce innovative solutions based on creativity and prior experience

· Responsible for preparing engineering drawings

· Manage assigned tasks and projects including timelines, resources, and budget

· Interact and coordinate with other technology development groups

· Job responsibilities will be tailored to the applicants skills and qualifications

· Help propel one of the highest efficiency electrolysis technologies to market

· Other tasks as assigned

· Report to Senior Manager, Engineering

 

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Manufacturing areas preferred)

Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in mechanical design or engineering roles

 

Ideal candidate must have:

· Canadian citizens and Canadian permanent residents

· Excellent mechanical design experience with metal components and knowledge of various manufacturing techniques and demonstrated ability in design for manufacturing and assembly

· Have hands-on experience with mechanical design, assembly and use of equipment

· 3D CAD software experience, SolidWorks environment preferred

· Be flexible and results-oriented with strong organizational and written and verbal communication skills

· Personal interest in fuel cells / hydrogen / green technology

· Excellent attention to detail

· Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); MS Access a plus

· Be able to interact with internal and external customers, work in a multidisciplinary team. Interact with pilot manufacturing and technology teams, capable of communicating with all levels of the organization, and report results and updates to managers

· Be able to independently conceive, design and execute experiments

· Be able and willing to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, respirator, and other PPE as required

· Knowledge of fuel cells and high temperature materials preferred

· Previous knowledge and experience related to automation or robotics preferred

· Travel: Some local/domestic travel may be required in addition to occasional travel to US.

· Have or be able to obtain a Passport

 

 

 

Working Environment/Working Conditions:

· Desk work using a computer

· This position is located indoors and requires the ability to move between separated rooms within the same building

· Occasional work outdoors in a power plant environment during commissioning activities

· Must be able to work physically in the office environment, lab environment and in the field

· Walking/standing/working in an office, lab, fabrication area, or designated installation site environment

· Periodic work outdoors in a power plant environment during commissioning activities

· Lifting up to 25 lbs., utilizing both hands simultaneously, utilizing hand tools, test equipment

· Be able and willing to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, respirator, and other PPE as required

· Occasional domestic travel via car and/or commercial airlines

· Travel: up to 10% domestic or international

· Have or be able to obtain a Passport
