Job Description

Waste Connections of Canada has an immediate opening for a 3rd year Mechanic Apprentice or Heavy Duty Mechanic Apprentice to join our team in Calgary, AB to work on a fleet of garbage trucks. As a Mechanic Apprentice, you will be assisting in completing brake jobs, hydraulic adjustments, along with preventative maintenance and minor engine repair. You will be responsible for maintaining Waste Connections of Canada (WCC) vehicles and equipment in a safe working order. The Mechanic Apprentice will work directly with the Mechanics to ensure that all vehicles meet all provincial regulations and standards, and WCC safety standards.

Pay rate:

  • 3rd year apprentice – $ 30.40 per hour (80%) of regular wage
  • 2nd year apprentice – $26.60 per hour (70%) of regular wage
  • Plus $1 shift premium

    Shift timing : Sunday night to Friday a.m. – 7:30 pm – 4 am. With alternating Saturdays 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

    Requirements:

  • 3rd Year Heavy Duty Mechanic Apprenticeship; would consider strong 2nd year apprentice (either apprentice must provide schooling certification as proof of term)
  • Must be able to pass all pre-employment tests
  •  A minimum of Class 5 drivers license; Class 3 preferred (Graduated license not allowed)
  • Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and repair Garbage Trucks, support vehicles and post collection off road equipment; in a safe, efficient, and courteous manner.
  • Ensure that all equipment and systems are operational by conducting inspections and completing related repairs to ensue vehicle uptime is maintained
  • Maintain accurate work orders and parts charge outs using an electronic work order system
  • Complete all safety checks and record all tire and brake measurements in the data base.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Works independently as well as under direction of the senior mechanics and lead hands
  • Will be required to learn and service all post collection processing equipment and perform facility work as needed
