Golder has a new opportunity for a Materials Engineer – EIT to join our Construction Services & Materials Engineering Division at our Whitby, Ontario location. Your primary responsibilities will include: * Providing technical services in a field and/or office environment; * Providing technical assistance on material engineering projects and tasks related to various construction materials including concrete, asphalt and soil/granular materials; * Performing construction site reconnaissance, inspections and observations; * Carrying out field work related to condition surveys of concrete structures and pavements; * Working on a variety of small to large projects ranging from residential, commercial and industrial developments to airports and mine sites; * Developing a good rapport with various levels of technical staff to assist in coordinating and scheduling field work of Golder employees and subcontractors; * Using specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analyses, reports and technical drawings; * Summarizing and analyzing findings from investigations and laboratory testing for report preparation; * Have or develop familiarity with various testing methods and specifications (including but not limited to CSA, OPSS, LS, ASTM, AASHTO, etc.) and apply these to field and laboratory activities; and * Working with and providing support to other members of the group in assisting with other field and office activities as required. The successful candidate will have the following skills, abilities, and qualifications: * Post graduate degree in Civil Engineering with focus on concrete technology; * Must be a licensed P.Eng.
or registered with PEO as an Engineer-in-Training or eligible to register; * 1 to 5 years of working experience with focus on civil engineering, concrete technology * Previous experience sampling, testing, analyzing, designing or working with construction materials including but not limited to, structural concrete, shotcrete, roller compacted concrete (RCC), self-consolidating concrete (SCC), or stabilized bases is an asset; * Thorough knowledge of all aspects of concrete technology such as: + concrete mix designs, including for specialty mixes, e.g.
SCC, shotcrete, etc. + supplementary cementitious materials; + concrete admixtures + specialized concrete testing, both laboratory and field + mortars and grouts + AAR and other degradation mechanisms + Mass concrete pours and heat of hydration + Thorough understanding of CSA standards related to concrete + Prepared to work in the field, laboratory and office * Familiarity with preparing and reading Construction Tenders is an asset; * Previous experience in a Contract/Construction Administrator role for infrastructure related projects responsible for overseeing work done by a Contractor and/or sub-contractors, preparing daily reports, etc.
is an asset; * Previous experience carrying out OSIM’s bridge inspections and/or Detailed Bridge Condition Surveys is an asset; * CCIL, ACI certification for concrete testing is an asset; * Must have access to a reliable vehicle and hold a valid driver’s license; * Willingness and eligibility to work out of town is an asset; * Ability to write simple proposals and reports for a variety of clients including but not limited to owners and other consultants; * Good written and verbal communication skills; and * Strong organizational skills.
