What you can expect in a typical day:

As Internal Controls Manager with Irving Oil, you will manage the Company’s overall Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (“ICFR”) program in accordance with the COSO framework. You will also review and assist with the development of Information Technology (“IT”) concepts and practices that will be used in the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (“ITIL”) as appropriate. This exciting opportunity will have responsibility to manage and sustain the ICFR governance structure and direct continuous improvement of Company-wide internal controls.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Manage the ICFR governance structure for IOCL including a quarterly CFO Certification process supported by an ICFR internal certification process.
  • Maintain ICFR policies and ensure the operation of efficient and effective internal controls over financial reporting throughout IOCL.
  • Managing initiatives for improvement of internal controls throughout the Company including a monitoring structure.
  • Coordinate the update of process and control documentation with a network of internal control process owners throughout the Company.
  • Liaise with and provide guidance and governance to IOCL IT to sustain compliance with control objectives for information and related technology.
  • Direct continuous improvement of Company-wide internal controls over financial reporting, including a regular risk-based ICFR assessment process leading to remedial actions and changes to ICFR documentation.
  • Understand IOCL’s goals and objectives and work with process owners and staff to ensure goals and objectives are in line and met.
  • Manage and support the ICFR team.
  • Manage continuous learning and development within the ICFR team and support learning and development throughout IOCL including the development and delivery of Company-wide ICFR training.
  • Attend meetings and participate in planning and strategizing where applicable.

  • Education and experience

  • Post-secondary education in accounting or finance. Undergraduate degree
  • CPA designation
  • 7+ years relevant work experience
  • 5+ years of leadership experience
  • Experience in the energy business a significant asset
