GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Lifeguards are the heart of the Aquatic Centre. Reporting to the Aquatic Supervisors and under the leadership of an Aquatic Team Lead. You will perform as a professional and dedicated team player in providing the best aquatic service to the community. It is a requirement as a Full-Time Lifeguard at RRC to be available to work rotations at Fort Chipewyan Aquatic Recreation Centre or any other RRC facility. Transportation to Fort Chipewyan and accommodations are facilitated by the RRC Travel Coordinator, in addition to other pay incentives.Lifeguards will provide safe, enjoyable aquatic opportunities through instructional services based on the certifications they hold. They will instruct swimming lessons and/ or advanced aquatic programs, prevent injuries through public education and respond appropriately when injuries and incidents do occur. Additionally, Instructors will mentor volunteers and instructors-in-training and serve as an advocate for children and other vulnerable members of our community. Position Type: 4 Seasonal Positions AvailableJob Rate: $25.71 per hourPosting Date: March 6, 2020Closing Date: Open until filledAnticipated Start Date: May 1, 2020Anticipated End Date: August 23, 2020RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs preventative lifeguarding duties in accordance with national standards and internal policies and procedures.Prevents injuries by providing public education and responds appropriately when first aid treatment and/or emergency response/rescue is required.Maintains the general cleanliness and safety of the aquatic centre area including change rooms and immediately rectifies unclean and/or potentially hazardous conditions in a proactive nature, whenever possibleCarries out opening and closing procedures appropriately.Ability and willingness to be flexible in a changing work environment. Completes reports accurately and in a timely manner.Organizes and leads games and activities for members and guests.Sets up, takes down and safely stores equipment and bulkheads according to a prearranged schedule and does so in a timely and cooperative manner.Provides exceptional service to aquatic centre users.Conducts routine safety inspections.Ability to establish and maintain respectful and cooperative working relationships with all teammates.Coach, mentor and develop lifeguards- in-training and volunteers.Performs wrist band checks.Ability to recognize and act to resolve potential problem.Performs other duties associated with the safe and effective operation of the Aquatic Centre as required by supervisory employees.Will attend all scheduled in-service training and perform monthly skills.Knowledge of lifeguarding principles and practices. Knowledge of aquatic instructional programs and evaluation standards.Ability to work independently and as a contributing member of a team.Ability to promote water safety and drowning prevention through public education and special events with all facility users.
