Reporting to the Quality Control Manager, the Technician shall be expected to travel to various plants within the Northern Ontario region to provide project support as needed at various plants. This is a student-level seasonal position with potential to extend pending project requirements. Health & SafetyImplementation of Lafarge Safety Policies, and compliance with government legislation.Execution of Job Hazard Analyses for QC and Plant Operational Tasks, and implementation of action itemsSupport to OperationsTravel to and from various Concrete plants to provide assistance with batching, material testing, or other operational dutiesPerform routine organization and cleanup tasks around plant and shopAssist with preparation and casting of concrete blocksTechnical Support and Quality ControlWork with QC team to ensure timely entry of all testing results in QC software/database is up to date in database. Ensure all technical documentation is updated according to Quality Plan.Implement Lafarge quality program, including conducting sampling of concrete and aggregates, testing of plastic concrete air content, slump, temperature, casting of concrete test cylinders, conducting trials, record keeping and reporting thereof.Record and monitor RMX product quality for the area and provide regular daily feedback to plant and quality staffPick up and drop off materials and samples as needed from plant(s) and job site(s)Effective use of MS Excel Software and various reporting tools Relationships with OthersReporting to the Quality Control Manager; the Technician is to work in conjunction with the plant, operations, and sales team, in an effort to aid in the production and delivery of a quality product that meets and/or exceed the customer-s needs. Education & Work Experience:Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering/Technology or equivalent.Current student preferable. Advanced Candidates will be considered.Knowledge & Skills:The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction materials (aggregates, asphalt and concrete) industry and have knowledge of industry-specific quality control tests and OPSS & CSA standards. Concreteand/or aggregate testing certifications an asset.Should have excellent written and oral communication skills and capable of creating good relationships internally and externally with our customers.Must also be able to work well as part of a team and independently.Good computer skills for Windows-based software. Working knowledge of MS Excel, Command Concrete, Apex, SAP, Quadrel and other Citrix-based applications an asset.Must possess full G-Class (or higher) Driver-s License with a clean driving abstract Physical Attributes: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, grasp, handle, or feel.The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; climb stairs& ladders; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear and smell. Infrequently the employee is required to work in awkward situations; balance; stoop, kneel or crouchThe employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment:Must be able to work in outdoor and indoor work environments in all weather.Employee must perform work outdoors in all weather conditions, and will work around moving mechanical parts and equipment. Various PPE will include safety boots, reflective clothing, safety glasses, gloves and hard hat. Additional PPE may be required depending upon tasks and locations.Availability for shift work is required.
