Position: Infection Control Practitioner I – Long Term Care
Site: Across All UHN Sites
Department: Infection Prevention and Control
Reports to: Manager
Salary Range: $68,110 – $85,137 per annum
Status: Temporary Full-Time (1 Year)
As an member of the Infection Prevention and Control Unit, the Infection Control Practitioner I works in the capacity of support to meet the needs of an evolving infection and prevention practice.
The principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to: performing surveillance activities within the UHN Long Term Care Hub and Spoke model to facilitate preventing and controlling outbreaks of infection; acting as a resource for associated clients, providing support services on an on-call basis including occasional evening and weekend on-call; providing education and training to internal and external care providers and other staff members; performing continuous Quality Improvement responsibilities; participating in professional development and education activities/programs to ensure excellence in the provision of Infection Prevention and Control services at UHN; performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
At minimum, completion of a Bachelor’s Degree program
Bachelors of science degree in Health or allied Health Sciences, or recognized equivalent
Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience
Experience in designing and conducting research with advanced statistics capabilities preferred
Community and Hospital Infection Control Association (CHICA) Canada member is required
Experience working in a Hospital or long-term care facility or public health facility
Certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC) preferred
Current license or registration from appropriate bodies (i.e. College of Medical Laboratory Technologists, College of Nurses of Ontario, etc.)

Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills
Computer skills and familiarity with multiple software programs is
Ability to establish an effective working relationship with others
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
Compliance with confidentiality requirements
