About the team:  The Compliance team plays a strategic role as a partner across the business units helping set principles that guide the organization’s behaviour in a compliant manner.  About the role:  Reporting to the Manager, Product Compliance, the GAAP Compliance Analyst plays a critical role at Wave, responsible for ensuring our accounting software is built in compliance with regulations in Canada and the USA.

Here’s how you’ll make an impact:

  • As a GAAP ComplianceAnalyst, you’ll be working closely with our Books Banking and Tax Business Unit to help ensure our Accounting software product is built in compliance with regulations in Canada and the USA. 
  • Your hands-on experience with Accounting (audit, tax, bookkeeping) allows you to understand financial products and system architectures which will help us build out the best experience for our customers using our software. As an experienced Accountant, your hands-on experience with accounting business processes, financial and management reporting (IFRS and US GAAP), month-end financial close process and regulatory reporting are super beneficial as this experience allows you to advise the technical team of Engineers and Product Managers/Designers in what to do, and what to avoid in our accounting product.
  • This expertise will position you in a way that you’ll be able to manage research projects for accounting compliance, so you’ll have a massive opportunity to ramp up across both Canada and the USA. Lots of learning to do!
  • You’ll be assisting the Product team with testing the Accounting product on an ongoing basis, so being detail oriented is necessary!
  • Any background or knowledge of US Income Tax, or Sales Tax, Corporate Tax, (or maybe even payroll tax) will help us stay current on evolving requirements, too. Did we say “tax”?
  • You’ll be working collaboratively with a team of other domain experts and apply your technical knowledge, providing guidance and expertise while answering questions related to Canadian and US Customers.

  • Are extremely comfortable navigating accounting software. It’s also important that you’ve worked with a few different financial softwares so that you’re able to identify gaps between them, what worked as well as what didn’t so you can advise comfortably about improvements to be made within our own software.
  • Have exceptional communication skills. Our teams are very collaborative and work closely together, so we need someone who is comfortable partnering with technical and non-technical team members.
  • You take initiative and can function with autonomy in your work while maintaining a high quality and pace. No one is going to be peering over your shoulder here. You function best with autonomy and your organizational skills help keep you at the top of your game.
  • Are able to pass credit, security and background checks due to the availability of sensitive information in this role.

  • Product Compliance Manager: Ida Starling.  With a background in Accounting and several years of leadership experience in the payroll industry Ida leads the product compliance team. Outside of work she can be found either out on the water, hiking in the desert or attending her sons sporting events. 
  • Director, Compliance and Regulatory Counsel: Ana Jung. Ana leads the compliance function at Wave. Ana is an experienced lawyer and compliance leader in the financial services industry, having joined Wave after 9 years at Canada’s largest private equity firm. Ana speaks four languages and enjoys travelling as well as playing the piano. 
  • Recruitment Partner: Camila Louzada . In the last 10 years, Camila has recruited in 4 different continents, led Vancouver’s biggest tech recruitment group, ran a consulting business helping tech companies grow, and often acted as a mentor and speaker. When she isn’t matchmaking amazing people to their dream jobs, Camila is either playing Brazilian music with her band, travelling the world with the Olympics, snuggling with her puppy, or making musical duets with her little girl named Alice.
