Summary
This position reports to the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, and is a member of Bethany’s Executive Leadership Team.
The Executive Director, HR is responsible for overseeing the development and provision of Human Resources programs, policies and procedures to attract and retain top talent at Bethany.
The Executive Director provides strong leadership and coaching to a team of HR professionals, and builds collaborative partnerships with the Executive Leadership Team and key stakeholders, helping to ensure the organization has the right talent, commitment and structure necessary to support the ongoing evolution of its Service Excellence culture, to grow the business and to serve its customers effectively.
Essential duties, responsibilities, and performance measures
Service Excellence:
Champions and evolves a culture of service excellence.
Performance Measures include:
Develops and implements initiatives and programs to enhance and evolve the organization’s culture, working collaboratively with the ELT and other senior leaders.
Directs and monitors strategies aimed at maintaining a healthy workplace culture, including strategies, programs and initiatives related to employee communications, engagement and relations across and inclusive of all of the organization’s programs and sites.
Plays a key role in identifying and addressing components of workplace culture that impede organizational and individual effectiveness, in a manner consistent with Bethany’s values.
Fosters a culture of accountability, trust, recognition and results among employees at all levels, consistent with short and long term organizational objectives.
Leadership:
Facilitates progressive and participative leadership, providing vision and communication for Human Resources.
Performance Measures include:
Member of the Executive Leadership Team on all aspects of HR, helping to ensure that Bethany has the right talent, in the right roles at the right time to deliver on business objectives.
Partners with the Executive Leadership Team and effectively implements strategies/action steps for new or improved programs, policies, and processes to effect defined organizational outcomes and to mitigate risk.
Lead an effective, respected and lean HR team that is seen as a strategic business partner to the business, and results-oriented.
Advances Bethany’s vision, mission and values, and enhances business results through overseeing, developing and executing talent acquisition and retention strategies, including organization wide programs and processes for:
Recruitment;
Compensation and benefits;
Labour relations;
Learning and development;
Change management;
Performance management;
Succession planning;
Health and safety, including physical and psychological safety, and employee wellness programs
Team Work:
Cares for and works cooperatively with others as an effective and trusted team member.
Performance Measures include:
Participates in Executive Leadership Team meetings, representing the HR portfolio.
Leads efforts to streamline HR workflows, data collection, analysis, communication and reporting in order to increase operational efficiencies and continuous improvement.
Provides active, intentional leadership to HR leaders; providing timely, positive and constructive feedback; fostering an environment of continuous learning consistent with the needs of the organization, team and individual team members.

Qualifications
Education & Professional Designation
Academic background equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources; and
An MBA or Master’s in a relevant area such as Organizational Learning and Development, Leadership or Labour Relations would be considered an asset.
Experience
1.Outstanding leadership capabilities and HR technical skills, together with a minimum of 10 years of progressively senior HR leadership experience.
A strong commitment to service and accountability.
A proven track record of successfully implementing HR strategies aligned with organizational objectives, and the ability to measure the results of those strategies.
Experience developing customer service focused and results-oriented teams with the demonstrated ability to guide, motivate and empower employees, working through others to achieve results.
A broad knowledge and base of experience in most functions of human resources: labour relations, employee relations, organization design, talent acquisition, learning and development; compensation and benefits.
High ethical standards and an honest, open and consistent approach to working with peers, leaders and employees.
Professional registration
CPHR Alberta membership required.
