We are looking for people ready to share, build, and grow with our company.The Environmental Superintendent facilitates the management, construction, approvals and operational phases of the Mary River Operations and site Project Team. To oversee site activities and provide advice and assurance with respect to environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance through implementation of Baffinland’s Sustainable Development Policy, Environmental Standards and Management Plans.Managing a team of site–based environmental staff, including seasonal and environmental consultants along with the cross-shift SuperintendentProviding day to day direction to site environmental staff including full time Projects Supervisors, Environmental Specialists, Engineers, Coordinators, Technologists and seasonal summer fixed term staff, student environmental support, consultants and contractors.Ensuring full compliance with all Health and Safety requirements and legal obligation for the above personnel.Understanding and delivery of complex and interrelated environmental actions related to interactions of with the project and the Arctic environment and managing these issues on a day to day basis.Leading and facilitating on-site regulatory inspections and visits by environmental inspectors and enforcement officers from various federal, territorial and government agencies including Inuit landowners.Assisting in obtaining permits and regulatory approvals for the ProjectProviding a lead role in environmental incident reporting, investigations, and development of effective and practical corrective actions.Developing and submitting written responses to Inspectors and agencies as required to address identified or potential environmental concerns and developing/presenting action plans.Implementation of key environmental programs and initiatives as directed by the Director and/or Manager of HSESTShort term (one year) and Medium Term (3 year) planning to optimize, rationalize, and enhance monitoring programs and initiatives.Developing and implementing environmental monitoring, sampling, and inspection schedules, as well as managing and directing staff, consultants, and student schedules and responsibilities.Provide technical support for the Project to ensure overall site environmental compliance to all permits, licenses, government/agency regulations, and other legal agreements with landowners.Assuming a key leadership role in environmental management and instilling sustainable development values in employees of the company through coaching and operations management.Works closely on a day to day basis with the Manager of HSEST, Chief Operating Officer (COO), General Manager (GM), managers and superintendents from other departments to maintain environmental compliance while optimizing construction and operational efficiencies.Work with site managers and supervisors in the support of risk assessment and change-management initiatives.Lead role in the preparation of all regulatory reporting requirements for the Project, both short term and long term.Manage site Environmental budgets related to the required regulatory and compliance reporting requirements by supporting the preparation of scopes of work and budgets, and administration of assigned programs within allocated budgetsDiploma in Environmental science, engineering or related program required. Bachelor”s Degree preferredFrom 5-7 years of experience working with Governments, NGO and other regulatorsFrom 7-10 years of experience with day to day support, supervision and scheduling of environmental support staffExtensive knowledge for relevant environmental legislation, standards and effective industry practicesMust possess effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to lead and to coordinate the efforts of others to accomplish objectives.Background in developing, monitoring and auditing environmental practices and performance.Strong analytical, problem – solving and decision making abilities, excellent organizational and time management skills.
