DNV GL’s Energy Storage Engineering team is seeking a Energy Storage Safety Consultant with expertise in energy storage performance and safety to work within DNV GL’s Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and Energy Storage Section. This position will include responsibility for project management, project support and several other technical duties. This position wil also be key in growing and maintaining DNV GL’s industry leading position in energy storage performance and safety testing and technical due diligence. The role will include projects related to performance and safety testing, modeling, and analysis. 

The ideal candidate should show a strong interest in energy storage, a passion for leading and defining the state of the art and impacting a rapidly growing industry in a meaningful way. 

This position will ideally be based in Chalfont, Pennsylvania; Portland, Oregon or Oakland, California. However, other office locations or remote work can be considered as well.

Tasks May Include

  • Supporting a range of research, modeling, and review projects ranging from technology, hardware, code and safety reviews.
  • Manage development of new and innovative analytical tools and approaches that support ongoing project work and new business
  • Thought leadership through development of white papers, webinars, code development, industry speaking engagements, and cross industry and business area collaboration as energy storage permeates maritime, aviation, grid, and oil & gas industries
  • Project Management and related tasks including monitoring budget, deliverables and client relationships for consulting projects
  • Provide expertise and process improvement to destructive and performance testing, working with experts in fire, gas, explosion and plume modeling, performing risk analysis, and interpreting fire and safety codes and for customers.
  • Participate in new business development through proposal writing and direct sales.
  • Build and maintain client relationships.
  • Provide input on strategic planning and marketing decisions
  • Position Qualifications

    Requirements

  • , Energy, Chemistry, Physics or related field
  • MS/PhD in Engineering, Energy, Chemistry, Physics or related field will be considered in lieu of work experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in the energy industry in an engineering or consulting role
  • Experience in a customer focused role
  • Strong verbal and written English communication
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations to senior executives and similar clients and DNV GL staff
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of the time within North America and, on occasion, internationally (travel dependent on COVID-19)
  • The ability to analyze data in Excel, Power BI, or other tools
  • We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening
  • Preferred

  • Experience with NFPA, UL, IEC, SAE, IEEE and ASTM standards as they relate to energy storage safety
  • Knowledge of energy storage safety as it relates to fire, electric, and building codes and standards
  • Lab and/or testing experience with energy storage devices
  • A solid network of industry contacts
  • Experience in developing and delivering publications in trade journals, presentations at conferences, or in articulating points of view
  • Ability to interpret and direct CFD models as they relate to fire safety risk
  • Experience with utility or industry best practice, guidelines and standards are also acceptable qualifications
  • Knowledge of electricity markets, trends in renewables and storage deployment, and policy decisions driving these trends
