Reports to: Chief Officer & RIBS Officer
We have an exciting opportunity for Coxswains with extensive powerboat experience to work on our cruise vessels. The position will involve running passenger RIB tours, RIB maintenance and general deck maintenance duties.
Main Tasks and Activities:
1. RIBs – Time Allocation 65%
RIB Coxswain and/or Guide during RIB Experience days
Wash-downs and thorough cleaning of RIBs and engines after each use and prior to use if required
Detailed cleaning / upkeep on a regular basis
Assisting RIB Officer with:
Day-to-day running of RIB functions
Updating electronic charts for chart plotters
Passage planning at least one cruise in advance – particularly utilising your own existing
knowledge of ports and coastlines
Conducting regular maintenance as per SQM and AMOS job descriptions to ensure the
smooth operation of RIBs for guests
Reporting maintenance of RIBs to RIB Officer as directed
Reporting and monitoring stock levels to RIB Officer as required
Any other RIB related tasks which may not be specified (e.g. splicing, whipping repairs etc.)
2. Additional Duties – Time Allocation 35%
As directed by Chief Officer, when the RIBs do not require attention, Coxswain will be assigned other
deck tasks around the ship. These may include but not limited to:
Lookout duties
Quartermaster duties
Mooring/berthing operations
Tender operations, including tender driving and pontoon operations
Training of crew in RIB tour operations
General Deck maintenance, including supervision of deck ratings
Identification of required maintenance and routine inspections
Gangway rigging
Routine AMOS work orders
Tank preparation and maintenance
Painting, polishing, cleaning
Guest interaction to promote RIB tours
We can offer you a competitive salary paid twelve months a year, a 4 : 2 work rotation of four months on board with two month’s paid leave, a single cabin with private facilities, flights to/from the vessel arranged and paid for by the company and an exciting opportunity to work onboard cruise ships travelling to worldwide destinations.
Requirements:
Education and Qualifications
Certification required:
– Powerboat Advanced
– STCW Basic Safety Training
– STCW Passenger Safety Certificate or equivalent
– Valid Seafarer’s Medical
Essential Criteria:
– Watch-keeping experience
– Minimum RYA Advanced Powerboat
– Basic STCW courses
Desirable Criteria:
– STCW A-II/4 Rating forming part of
navigational watch
Specialist Knowledge and Skills
Essential Criteria:
– Extensive experience of driving andmanoeuvring powerboats / RIBs / yacht tenders in varying sea states and weather conditions
Desirable Criteria:
Experience of powerboats/RIB’s with twin engine installation’s
Relevant experience:
– RYA Advanced Powerboat ICC Cruise, large yacht or prior customer-facing background
Interpersonal and Communication skills
– Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
– Ability to communicate with a diverse range of guests
