Your Opportunity

We have an opening for a 4-6-month summer student.

As a Planning student within our Buildings business line, you will have the opportunity to work on projects such as community plans and zoning bylaws, transportation planning, indigenous community planning, housing strategies, climate adaptation and community engagement across Canada’s north. Our highly experienced, multi-disciplinary team specializes in working with northern people and communities to create vibrant, resilient and healthy communities.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.

  • Uses knowledge of the general concepts of community planning, public engagement, sustainability, and design.

  • Assists the project team with, research, public and stakeholder engagement events, drafting summary reports, and preparation of plans.

  • Prepares and coordinates technical activities on assigned projects.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

  • Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Basic understanding of community planning, working with indigenous governments and public engagement.

  • Developing cooperative skills in working efficiently with a team.

  • Developing communication skills with internal and external stakeholders, including members of the public.

  • Developing organizational skills and understanding of task assignment and schedule.

  • Developing knowledge of zoning, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, Powerpoint.

  • Basic experience with relevant InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat would be an asset.

  • Education and Experience

    This is an entry level position for a student enrolled in an accredited Planning Degree program.

    Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for periods of time. Some travel and evening work may be required (10%), such as to community site visits and public meetings.
