The Child Services Leader reports to the Child Services Coordinator. This position will be responsible for assisting in the daily operations of child care services and programs offered by MacDonald Island Park. The Child Services Leader will be respectful of children and parents and will be responsible for making sure that the area remains clean, safe, and well maintained. This position will require an individual to exemplify exceptional customer service and will be an important role amongst the Sport and Leisure Programs Department.Location: MacDonald Island Park – Fort McMurray, ABPosition Type: 1 Part-Time Position AvailableProbationary Rate: $21.09Job Rate: $22.13Posted: November 5, 2019Closing date: Open until filledOrganize the daily operations of child minding/child care services and programming to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the programs at MacDonald Island ParkGuide children in day-to-day activities and create age appropriate activities that promote learning and developmentProvide a safe and secure environment while providing opportunities for sleep/rest time, ensuring positive discipline and communication, and establishing routine according the MacDonald Island Park’s policies and proceduresAssist with sanitizing toys and child care areaSupervise the Indoor Playground area and enforce rules for all guestsEnsure the provision of nutritious snacks and lunchesProvide parents with information regarding staff, scheduling, expectations, services, and planned activitiesMaintain current, accurate , and confidential client filesProvide insight into daycare processes and emergency proceduresProvide exceptional customer service to all guests at MacDonald Island ParkAssist with set up, take down and cleaning of birthday and team party equipment or suppliesSupervise birthday party and team parties and enforce rules for all guestsEnsure the timely delivery of food when appropriateLead guests through themed arts and craft projects or games and activitiesProvide parents and guests with information regarding staff, scheduling, expectations, services, and planned activitiesProvide insight into birthday and team party programming and emergency proceduresComplete additional projects as assigned by the Child Services Coordinator and the Sport and Leisure Programs SupervisorMay be required to dress up for themed programs and/or events.Complete additional projects and other duties as assigned by the Child Services Supervisor and the Health & Wellness Manager.Certifications:Current Standard First Aid certificate or equivalent (including CPR C)Current AED certificateEducation: A two year Early Learning and Child Care certificate (Child Development Supervisor) would be considered an asset; or equivalent education and experienceEssential Skills and Experience:Minimum one year experience in a child care settingAbility to work independently and as part of a teamDemonstrate excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skillsExcellent understanding of a child’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social developmentStrong programming capabilityPossess cultural awareness and sensitivityStrong understanding of standard child care guidelines and proceduresAbility to work with Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerpointAbility to engage in continuous learning and on the job trainingDesirable Skills and Experience:Experience with working with children with disabilitiesExperience in customer service would be an assetPost Secondary Child Development coursesPrevious child programming and delivery experienceHigh 5 TrainingPrinciples of Healthy Child Development (PHCD)PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS &WORKING CONDITIONS:This position is a part time positionand a flexible schedule including early morning, late night, and weekend workThis position may include heavy lifting of supplies and equipment and may be exposed to loud noises and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environmentThis position will also require a security clearanceThis position may require travel between our various facilities within the Wood Buffalo Region.
