Job Description

Blue Water Timber Products Ltd. complete forestry management is currently looking for a hardworking, self-motivated, skilled, and dependable skidder / Chainsaw operator to join our busy and ever-growing team. We pay top dollar and will train motivated candidates.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform tree cutting and skidding (logging) operations
  • Conduct logging operations under the supervision of Foreman
  • Trail and road maintenance and construction
  • Operate chainsaw and various power tools to cut timber to the appropriate size for transportation
  • Load timber onto the trailer and ensure safe transportation
  • Follow safety rules and maintain a safe work environment
  • Maintain equipment and keep warehouse and facilities clean and organized
  • Trims limbs, tops, and roots from trees
  • Cuts down trees and saws logs to predetermined lengths.
  • May measure and mark logs for sawing
  • May use axes to fell trees
  • Fastens cables around logs to be dragged by tractors
  • Survey, evaluate and take measures to ensure the work area is safe from any dangers (powerlines, utilities, co-workers, etc.)
  • Follows work order instructions from supervisor
  • Ensures that the job site is left in a safe condition
  • Maintains good housekeeping on equipment
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience:

  • Previous experience using hand-held chainsaws or machines preferred
  • High School education or equivalent preferred

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Must have a valid drivers license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to understand and follow oral instructions; communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and the public effectively
  • Able to comply with all safety policies and procedures and OSHA regulations
  • Able to comply with all company policies and procedures
  • Ability to travel and work overtime when required
  • Must have a strong work ethic
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment and random drug screen
  • Must be able to work varying shifts

Physical Demands: The physical demands below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Able to push and pull with hands, arms, and feet repetitively
  • Must have good visual and auditory physical capabilities in order to manage sights and sounds in a hazardous construction environment
  • Able to push, pull, climb, sit and stretch regularly while performing the essential functions of the job
  • Able to be alert and cognitive of multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including awareness of other employees, subcontractors, machinery, equipment, and moving traffic when applicable
  • Ability to work around loud noises
  • Coordination between hand, eyes, feet to guide equipment and objects is required
  • Must be able to mount and dismount safely off vehicles and equipment
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Must be able to travel
  • Must be able to work overtime as requested
  • Must be able to walk on uneven terrain
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds

Environmental Working Conditions:

  • All work is performed outside in all types of various weather (i.e. heat, cold, wind, sun and inclement weather, etc.)
  • Exposure to all types of terrain.
  • Exposure to all elements of nature on a regular basis.
  • Exposure to loud noise
