JOB PURPOSE:The Business Analyst role is responsible for providing complex requirements gathering and analysis for new and ongoing projects in Information Technology, facilitate project execution, manage competing priorities, and apply a high degree of professionalism in managing stakeholders and their expectations. The Business Integration team has two main goals. The first is to maximize the ways in which IT is being absorbed as a function of business, and to perform the role of trusted interface and translator between IT and the business. The second is to enable and facilitate change, usually in the context of information technology projects (and in close collaboration with the PMO), by defining goals and requirements and by designing, validating, and recommending solutions that deliver real business value.QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:A university (preferred) or college degree in Business, Computer Science or a related discipline, coupled with relevant experience in business analysis, project management, business processes, IT service management, and information systems solution architecture and design. Relevant education or certifications in business analysis, project management, business processes, IT service management, and information systems solution architecture and design will be considered in lieu of a college diploma or university degree.3 to 5 years progressive and related business analysis and project management experience, including significant technology project experience.Breadth of knowledge and experience in project management (planning, implementation, measurement) under conditions of rapid change, supporting a diverse user community.Strong interpersonal skills related to needs identification, business process consultation, solution selling and relationship management at all levels of the organization.Strong verbal and written communication skills to facilitate meetings, resource coordination and documentation.Strong understanding of business unit processes, workflows and management control structures.Strong understanding of performance measures, cost/benefit analysis and ROI.Speaks in a clear, articulate manner, using audience-appropriate language and terminology, for individual and/or group situations.Develops and applies complex information.Breadth and depth of knowledge / experience in Microsoft Office, MS Outlook and MS SharePoint platforms, and leveraging these technologies to meet business unit needs.Knowledge of the business workings of the Law Society’s systems and business culture would be an asset.Client / Customer Service DeliveryIn conjunction with the Information Technology team and client department representatives, facilitates the identification of business and end-user requirements with respect to applications and technology infrastructure solutions.Assess needs and make recommendations with respect to acquisition versus development, testing and maintenance of business systems in support of client department needs, consulting with client department staff and managers to quantify end-user needs, articulate business process and performance requirements, and gain agreement regarding cost-effective systems solutions.Translates business system design and requirements into functional specifications suitable for development of computer systems, completes applications programming as required, and monitors the work of staff and/or contractors assigned to specific projects.Facilitates business units in the creation of business process flow diagrams, business requirement documentation and business test scripts for applications being developed.Evaluates system performance and effectiveness, and provides ongoing implementation and support for agreed IT solutions, providing regular reports to business unit and IT management regarding the status of assigned projects and initiatives.ResearchResearches, quantifies and develops business cases for cost-effective applications solutions in keeping with the defined and agreed needs of client departments and industry best practices.Remains abreast of new trends in the industry via technical journals, Internet sources, conferences and courses, and networking with other professionals.Ensures awareness at all times of organization objectives with respect to current and projected plans for provision of IT functionality to business users.Special Projects & InitiativesLeads business unit resources assigned to projects under development, and provides consultation and project planning for the delivery of cost-effective, stable, predictable and responsive application functionality.Builds relationships with client department staff and managers, based on personal expertise and best practices with respect to technology solutions to business process requirements.Consults with business units regarding process and performance issues, gains consensus with respect to recommended solutions, and facilitates project planning, development and implementation.Provides regular reports to business units and IT management regarding the status of assigned projects and initiatives.Team MembershipWorks closely with other members of the Information Technology team and client departments in the identification, diagnosis, isolation and resolution of complex problems.Develops and shares expertise regarding Law Society application systems, and regularly communicates with team members regarding systems issues, projects and initiatives.Provides clarification to team members on technical issues, particularly regarding writing of code and tests to meet business specifications.Is a key contributor to client department teams, chairing meetings, facilitating needs identification, and promoting the effective use of information technology solutions to business process and performance objectives.The Business Analyst may be involved in the recruitment, interview and selection process, and may provide work direction to team members and contract resources assigned to specific projects and initiatives.The Law Society of Ontario values and respects diversity.
