The LDB is one of two branches of government responsible for the cannabis and liquor industry of B.C. We operate the wholesale distribution of beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis within the province, as well as the household retail brands of BC Liquor Stores and BC Cannabis Stores.

Liquor Retail Operations, encompassing the three retail business units of Merchandising, Marketing and Store Operations, is responsible for the daily operations of the 198 BC Liquor Stores. The Retail division develops and executes key strategies to drive business, creates systems and processes, and establishes daily retail procedures to maximize operational excellence, while upholding BCLDB’s core values of service, relationships and results. The Senior Manager, Marketing & Advertising is responsible for leading the advertising and marketing programs for BC Liquor Stores including implementing effective measurement tools to monitor the ROI and overall effectiveness of the programs. The Senior Manager will also work directly with the Director Marketing to collaborate on defining and implementing the overall marketing and advertising plan and strategy. The Senior Manager, Marketing & Advertising and the Senior Manager, Digital & Web along with the Director, Marketing forms the department’s senior leadership team.

This role is also responsible for innovation and developing strategies for both in-store and marketing/advertising programs to build competitive advantage for BC Liquor Stores and to drive traffic and generate incremental sales for BCLS stores and online (ecommerce site).

Working conditions include working full time at the LDB head office and work week nights/weekends as required (only for urgent matters or to support a major launch).

Position Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • A degree in marketing or a related field, combined with a minimum of five years of recent (within the last ten years), related experience*.

*Recent, related experience must include:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in developing yearly and monthly marketing and advertising plans and overseeing both traditional (TV, radio, print, sponsorships) and digital advertising (pre-roll, SEM, social media, programmatic, enewsletters etc.).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in leading a team of direct reports.
  • Experience leading in-store marketing programs and initiatives.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following experience:

  • 3 years of experience in developing yearly and monthly marketing and advertising plans and overseeing both traditional (TV, radio, print, sponsorships) and digital advertising (pre-roll, SEM, social media, programmatic, enewsletters etc.).
  • 3 years of experience in leading a team of direct reports.
  • Experience with marketing content strategy and development and providing direction in video or photoshoots.
  • Experience in a large and/or geographically distributed multi-unit retail organization / regulated industry or government-related entity.
  • Experience setting marketing targets, driving measurable results and reviewing analyzes to provide recommendations, preferably in both an in-store and E-Commerce environment.
