Job Description

Briza.io is a Canadian-American insurance technology startup, creating the infrastructure for insurance underwriters and brokers to deliver quotes, and customers to pay for small business insurance policies, in real time, on your phone or browser.

We have ambitious plans to move commercial insurance into the future, and we’re looking for full time backend engineers specializing in API integrations to join us here in our downtown Toronto office.  In this role you’ll be integrating our partners APIs into the Briza platform allowing us to launch new products into new markets.

We’re looking for team members with a strong background or interest in building successful products and systems; you’re comfortable in dealing with lots of moving pieces; you have exquisite attention to detail; and you’re comfortable learning new technologies and systems. This position will challenge and reward your creativity and dedication!

Job Summary

  • Synthesize API documentation from third party sources

  • Writing integrations with third party APIs

  • Validating and testing the API integrations

  • Ability to create scripts and tooling to facilitate the onboarding of other third party APIs

  • Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack

  • Work with engineers across the company to build new features

  • Improve our engineering standards, tooling, and processes

You may be fit for this role if you:

  • Have worked with other APIs and third-party integrations

  • Have worked with JSON, JSON-API, XML message formats

  • Have experience in object-oriented programming and can think in interfaces

  • Can research, design and communicate your ideas in technical design and architecture discussions

  • Have an understanding of the OpenAPI specification

  • Desire to work on systems to securely store sensitive data

  • See the value in writing automated tests (unit, integration) and strive to always do so.

  • Would enjoy working with our product team to build new tools

  • Hold yourself and others to a high bar when working with production systems, and take pride in working on projects to successful completion

  • Thrive in small collaborative teams and environments involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts

  • Have startup, or scaleup experience
