This position for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor joins the building division of a global group. With a heritage dating back over 100 years and a strong and successful trading history the group now consists of specialist building, civil engineering and FM divisions.

The building division has a national footprint and operates from key locations throughout England and Wales. They deliver new build, refurbishment and fit-out projects across key sectors including healthcare, commercial, industrial, retail, education and mixed use developments. They work across private and public sector and have been successful on a number of Framework agreements where they have built long term strategic partnerships with clients, suppliers and across the supply chain. This has delivered significant financial success, security and a clear, long term line of sight to future growth.

This role for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor joins an established commercial team where you will undertake a full range of quantity surveying duties on a number of commercial aspects of a project, contributing to financial success. Projects are delivered through a range of contracts namely traditional, JCT and Design & Build.

Key responsibilities and requirements as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor

  • To develop commercial and technical knowledge, working closely with the commercial team
  • To develop an understanding of Pre-Contract Management and Project commercial start up procedures
  • To procure materials and off site services in an efficient manner as directed
  • To assist with subcontract procurement and in the preparation of subcontract invitations to tender and the evaluation of tender returns
  • To develop an understanding of the importance of the supply chain to deliver continuous improvement
  • To assist in the timely preparation of valuations, submissions of invoices and receipt of payment
  • To assist in the prompt preparation and settlement of final accounts
  • To contribute to the production of accurate and timely CVR reports and forecasts
  • To develop an understanding and identify risks and opportunities in projects
  • To support early value engineering activities as part of the project team, ensuring all associated costs of change are included within the evaluation
  • To develop a knowledge of programming and sequencing requirements
  • To support the preparation of all necessary subcontract notices accurately and on time
  • To prepare timely and accurate payments for authorisation
  • To assist in the prompt preparation and settlement of final accounts, including variations, claims and disputes
  • To support the project close out and archiving
