Artist Recruiter – Visual Effects




This role supports the global studios by sourcing consistent, highly-creative and technically savvy artists for our growing studio in Vancouver, B.C. Artist Recruiters understand that beyond the technical and creative skills that are the core of studio’s ongoing success, that the value and power of cultural fit in a team-focused environment.


The role of Artist Recruiter will be a strong balance of both Brand Ambassador promoting the studio brand online and in person, as well as managing studio’s Artist Recruitment using both active and passive techniques to develop and maintain a pipeline of talent. A successful studio Artist Recruiter understands is able to clearly communicate that from its beginnings as an artist-founded studio, the studio has a “we not I” culture.


The Artist recruiter will outreach to potential candidates by sharing our history, talent, and work culture through social media and LinkedIn. They will also focus on the technical aspects by using metrics and analytics to find and develop top talent to be successful and deliver excellent artwork to our clients.


The Artist Recruiter will be accountable for building a network of artists (through passive and active recruitment methods), supporting retention, growth, and development efforts. Our Artist Recruiter will work closely with a US based HR coordinator to organize career fair events, promotional recruitment materials and planning, and interviews.


The studio Artist Recruiter is part of the HR department with a direct report to the LA based Global Studio Manager.


RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):


  • In conjunction with the scheduling and department leadership, understand upcoming artist needs, then prepare and execute artist recruitment to match needs

  • Develop both active and passive recruitment strategies to identify and engage prospective artists for current and future studio needs

  • Continue expanding studio’s existing relationships with artists in its various studio locations

  • Partner with the studio people team to:

    • Prepare offers as well as refine job descriptions and job postings

    • Understand North American immigration and work visas

    • Partnering together to ensure a great candidate experience.

    • Provide prospective candidates a clear and transparent vision of studio’s culture

  • Oversee studio’s network of artist availability; proactively continue to build potential and trusted artists and production staff

  • Engage with art schools and universities, nurture existing and create new relationships that allow studio to meet and recruit talented artists emerging from those organizations.

  • In concert with marketing, assure studio’s culture is reflected online on the studio ‘Join Us’ webpage and social media accounts.

  • Skilled in the art of engagement throughout the recruitment process

  • Negotiate compensation and total rewards with artists that aligns with skill and within budget

  • Other duties as assigned.


Required experience and knowledge

  • At least 3 years’ experience in recruitment, Experience in entertainment, media or VFX industry recruitment a strong plus

  • Demonstrable track record of building strong, long-lasting relationships with a variety of artists

  • Deep understanding of the candidate pool in their location and proven success in recruitment

  • Strong understanding of employment contracts, recruitment cycles, and total rewards

  • Previous experience with immigration and legal requirements in relation to recruitment in Canada

  • Recruitment experience in Montreal and Toronto a plus.

  • Experience with VFX principles, techniques, and tools is a major plus.
