The ICP-MS Lab and Research Technician and will report into the Head of Science, Research and Development, and will be responsible for the research, method development and analysis of plant-based extracts and nutrient solutions to support quality cannabis production. Ø Develop analytical methods and conduct analysis of bioactive plant-based extracts (flower and oil) before and after extraction, nutrient solutions and finished products;
Ø Prepare samples for ICP-MS analysis to support optimization of production and manufacturing of cannabis products;
Ø Perform sample analysis according to GMP regulations, including preparation of standards, operation of equipment and generation of reports;
Ø Maintain database inventory of biological and extracted products; track chemical inventory, and record weight and amounts;
Ø Plan and conduct experiments for multidisciplinary projects, document all experimental work in ERP system, and communicate findings to Head Scientist;
Ø Write and revise SOPs in accordance with Health Canada, the Cannabis Act and Cannabis Regulation requirements;
Ø Conduct general quality assurance tasks in accordance with SOPs and regulatory requirements; and
Ø Conduct general lab duties including material handling, cleaning of dishes and equipment, and other lab tasks and research as required.
WHAT YOU BRING:
Ø Bachelor’s Degree in Organic, Inorganic or Analytical Chemistry; Master’s Degree strongly preferred;
Ø Knowledge of analytical equipment such as Agilent ICP-MS;
Ø Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and documentation processes;
Ø Good grasp on scientific process and its application;
Ø Thorough understanding of analytical and organic chemistry;
Ø Proficient computer skills including MS Office and Excel;
Ø Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills;
Ø Excellent math and statistical skills;
Ø Ability to think analytically and troubleshoot experiments;
Ø Ability to effectively operate laboratory equipment, manipulate valves and use various laboratory tools;
Ø Ability to comply with PPE requirements and SOP instructions; and
Ø Self-motivated to work independently and thrive in a small, collaborative team environment.

Ø 5 years’ laboratory experience with analysis of organic materials such as plant extracts and plant nutrient solutions;
Ø Solid experience of Mass Hunter;
Ø Experience analyzing heavy metals in botanical extracts, nutrient and soil samples are strongly preferred; and
Ø Experience with cannabis research and analysis considered an asset.
