Job ID:20356Updated:March 24, 2020Location:Main CampusPosition OverviewTheSchulich School of Engineering is currently seeking a Full-time Limited TermAdvancing Technologies Technician approximately 1 year.This position reports to the Manager, Strategic Projects, and will develop knowledge and content for curriculum and learning workshops within the digital engineering and robotics areas. This position will work within Zetta (The SSE hub for digital research and teaching innovation), and provides expert support to faculty, TAs, students, and staff.The areas of knowledge this position supports includes current and emerging technologies such as SAAS, PAAS, IoT, data & visualization, AI and machine learning, VR, AR (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud, MS Azure, Hadoop, GoodData, TensorFlow, etc.). Technical support will also be expected for Robotics engineering and the Engineering Maker Multiplex.Position DescriptionSummary of Key Responsibilities(job functions include but are not limited to):Incorporate and integrate the wide range of emerging leading-edge technologies into Zetta, the SSE makerspace, and SSE academic curriculaIdentify and implement training opportunities in the suite of emerging technical offerings that are substantially altering the business and social environment.Participate in the ongoing design of Zetta’s physical and digital infrastructuresResponsible for the overall operations of Zetta, including developing and maintaining operating processes, scheduling learning opportunities, and access allocationsDevelop and maintain the Zetta programming planProvide guidance for Zetta-employed teaching and learning assistants, and workshop facilitatorsDevelop and deliver course/workshop programming ideas, content, and eventsPlan and design specialized systems and applications to meet the needs of operations, research, and academics.Apply specialized skills and knowledge in the maintenance and development of core systems and complex programs and projectsLiaise with IT to ensure IT requirements are met for incorporating new technologies into ZettaIdentify new applications that aid our students in Teams and Clubs and other extracurricular pursuitsSupport faculty in the discovery, evaluation, engagement, and adoption of new technologiesSupport faculty and TAs in the training, integration, documentation, and support of technology in academic courses, lectures and labsMaintain Zetta equipment, environment and inventories.Develop and maintain technical documentation for ideas, processes and procedures.Maintain knowledge of developing technological advancements and make recommendations for incorporating them into ZettaQualifications / Requirements:Undergraduate Degree in Software Engineering or Computer ScienceMinimum 3 years of recent, related experience in emerging technologiesMay consider a combination of education and experienceProven programming experience required, especially for systems integrationKnowledge of networking systems, and communication protocols preferredHigh level of technical proficiency in cloud platforms such as Google, Apple, Amazon and others.Data querying and analysis skillsStrong troubleshooting and debugging skillsAbility to deliver integrated solutions leveraging multiple technologies/platformsCapable of negotiating rapid change and innovating changeProject/development leadership experience preferredExperience with course/workshop development and deliveryCustomer relations skills/experience preferredTeaching/coaching experience preferredApplication Deadline: April 7, 2020We would like to thank all applicants in advance for submitting their resumes.
