Job Description

Our client, a large, local non-profit is searching for a Manager, Accounting to join their team. This position is responsible for coordinating the various functions of the general ledger, including reconciliation and analysis of all balance sheet accounts. They will also be responsible for providing supervision and direction to staff, as well as ensuring financial processes are carried out in accordance with the objectives, policies, and procedures of the organization while adhering to all accounting standards.

 

Your success will be defined by your ability to:

  • Manage and provide guidance on account codes and general management of the general ledger
  • Review/post journal batches to the general ledger and prepare any additional journal entries as required
  • Prepare monthly allocation entries to assign costs to individual projects
  • Responsible for review and sign-off of staff reconciliations and working papers
  • Responsible for the tracking and closing of the month-end process
  • Ensure all month-end and year-end financial statements and board financial packages are prepared within the prescribed timelines
  • Report on all variances on the financial statements
  • Responsible for the coordination of the interim and year-end audits
  • Monitor all bank reconciliation and online banking activities and provide back-up as required
  • Manage and monitor cash balances and working capital and report material discrepancies to the senior management
  • Review cheques, EFTS, adjustments and other documents for accuracy
  • Administer the online banking process ensuring all controls are in place
  • Prepare and submit all CRA GST filings and coordinate for installment payments
  • Compile and submit reports related to existing grants and mortgages
  • Ensure all the processes within the scope of this position are coordinated in co-operation with other departments

Your strengths include:

  • Bachelor of Commerce and/or Business Administration degree or relevant post-secondary diploma.
  • Minimum 8 years’ management and related experience preferably in a unionized environment.
  • CPA is a requirement
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience required and supervision of unionized staff
  • Minimum 5-10 years of full-cycle accounting experience required
