The Weld Quality Checker will verify shop drawings, inspect welds and identify non-conformities in the production line. The position also requires the employee to repair or add non-conforming and missing welds as required.
Position on the afternoon shift.
Conduct visual inspections of all welds from the assigned production line.
Identify non-conforming (e.g. weld length, cracks, craters, etc.) and/or missing welds.
Review and interpret shop drawings, welding symbols and tape measures.
Verify the dimensions (e.g. joist holes, components, tilt, etc.) of a pre-determined quantity of joists produced.
Add or repair welds as required.
Operate cranes to lift and move joists for inspection or painting.
Advise workplace parties on quality issues or concerns as identified.
Comply with health and safety, environmental and Lean policies and procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to produce welds that meet CWB standards.
Ability to interpret shop drawings.
Ability to operate a crane.
Ability to communicate, read and write in English is a must.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety and operating policies, procedures and instructions.
Ability to work safely and maintain production demands.
Willingness to engage in training as required.
Prepared to work 3:30 pm – 12 am with a willingness to work overtime, including weekends.
The nature of this position also requires the employee to perform a wide range of physical activities, ranging from pushing and pulling, lifting and carrying heavy objects (50-75lbs), to sitting, climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending and handling with repetitive hand and finger movements. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
The employee constantly works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to welding fumes and airborne particles. The employee may also be at risk of experiencing flash burns, skin burns, electrical shocks and high noise levels. Personal Protective Equipment must always be worn (including but not limited to: metatarsal safety boots, safety glasses, welding helmet, welding gloves/sleeves, ear plugs and respiratory protection).
