DIVISION : Gordon Food Service OntarioPOSITION : Transportation SupervisorREPORTS TO : Transportation ManagerPOSITION OVERVIEWReporting to the Transportation Manager, the Transportation Supervisor is responsible for supporting the Transportation operations by recommending measures to improve quality of service, increasing efficiency of department, and find cost effective solutions on a continuous basis that meet or exceed Gordon Food Service standards. The days and hours of work for this position are currently TBD and are subject to change due to business needs.RESPONSIBILITIES :Works with other departments to coordinate activities to serve both internal and external customers.Provide ongoing performance management to all Transportation Team Members including performance reviews and progressive discipline.Implements succession planning by, mentoring, guiding and developing Assistant Transportation Supervisors to prepare them to grow with Gordon Food Service.Completes weekly scheduling of direct reports including vacation planning. Ensures all routes are filled through the route bidding process.Acknowledges the need for Route creation and changes current routes to better serve Gordon Food Service’ external customers.Reviews department invoices and submits all charges through the OnBase tracking system.Works with team to properly understand and assign all credit codes when handling customer returns.Conducts ride alongs and spot checks when required.Completes any additional tasks assigned by the Transportation Manager.GENERAL LEADERSHIP & CHANGE MANAGEMENT SKILLS:Mentoring Skills: ability to assess development potential of staff; ability to explain philosophies and /or demonstrate skills and determine who can demonstrate skills, which develop the knowledge level of staff.Succession Planning Skills: ability to assess the short/long-term leadership requirements of the fleet, day shift, and evening shift, identify potential staff to fill the requirements, and implement a career development plan to enable candidates to increase their skill levels.Performance Coaching Skills: ability to define expectations, monitor performance of staff, provide positive and constructive feedback concerning performance levels.Listening and Empathy skills: ability to reflect accurately a speaker”s content and feelings about content, ability to understand the position and needs of others.Operational Skills: Demonstrated ability in logistics and distribution management understanding and implementing warehousing and transportation system, maximizing efficiency in product flow, and utilizing logistics and distribution technology to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness.Strategic Skills: Demonstrated ability in strategic and innovative thinking, significant contributions in strategic planning at a senior level, implementing strategic initiatives and challenging status quo thinking.DESIRED SKILLS:Servant Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability in practicing servant leadership by identifying and meeting the legitimate needs of others and influencing them to more fully contribute their resources toward beneficial goals, with character that inspires confidence.EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:Previous Supervisory experience in a Transportation setting is requiredExperience working in an effective, results focused team environmentExcellent organization skills and time management in dealing with multiple projects and deadlinesStrong communication skills both verbal and writtenKnowledge of OnBase and aptitude to learn new or changing software applications.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)Problem solving abilities that require use of ingenuity and innovationJob Type: Full-timeRequired experience:Supervising: 2 yearsWatch these videos for even more information about Gordon Food Service!** Gordon Food Service welcomes diversity in the workplace and encourages applications from all qualified individuals, including visible minorities, Aboriginal People, and persons with disabilities.
