Competition #19/05Internal Posting Closing date: January 10, 2019Traffic Markings Painter (Continuous) Engineering and Public Works DepartmentPOSITION FUNCTIONPerform traffic marking functions, maintain signs and posts, and paint lamp and cluster standards.KEY DUTIESMark out surfaces and paint traffic markings including crosswalks, curbs, arrows and parking stalls using various equipment such as airless spray or compressed air machines, manual line painters and hot and cold applied materials; remove traffic markings using a line grinder; place and collect traffic control cones and signs in work area; set up traffic control as required.Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of paint machines, spray guns and other equipment; perform pre-trip vehicle inspection; operate a vehicle and trailer to transport equipment and materials; requisition supplies and materials from City stores and suppliers as required; complete work orders.Install and repair signs such as regulatory, street name, hazard and traffic; mix and place concrete for installation of sign posts as required; operate equipment such as hammer drill and post straightener.Paint lamp and cluster standards and replace overhead signs by use of aerial lift truck as assigned. Removing or painting over graffiti from City property.Perform related duties where qualified.INDEPENDENCEWork is performed according to seasonal programs or assigned by supervisor.Work is reviewed upon completion.Problems with placement of signs or markings are referred to supervisor.WORKING CONDITIONSPhysical Effort:Lift and move heavy equipment and materials.
