A team of more than 160 department members, the Department of Anesthesiology is composed of physicians, anesthetists, scientists, educators and allied health professionals who provide services to ten Edmonton hospitals, and referrals from northern and western Alberta. We are a major referral centre for Northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories with a referral based of over 1.5 million people. The Anesthesiology group provides services to patients at the Cross Cancer Institute, Grey Nuns Community Hospital, Leduc Community Hospital, Misericordia Community Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital, Stollery Children’s Hospital, Sturgeon Community Hospital, Westview Health Centre and the University of Alberta Hospital.The Royal Alexandra Hospital is located in the heart of Edmonton and provides general and specialized medical and surgical health services. As one of Alberta’s largest surgical facilities, the hospital plays a lead role in the expansion and development of minimally invasive surgery, a rapidly evolving technique that helps patients heal and return to productive lives faster. The Grey Nuns Community Hospital and Misericordia Community Hospital are part of Covenant Health. The Stollery Children’s Hospital cares for children from northern and central Alberta, the Territories and the Western provinces. The Cross Cancer Institute is the comprehensive cancer centre for northern Alberta, and is one of two tertiary cancer centres in the province. The Cross Cancer Institute is a lead centre for the province-wide prevention, research and treatment program. Located 20 kilometers south of Edmonton, the Leduc Community Hospital has acute care beds, sub acute beds and transition beds. The hospital provides inpatient medical and surgical care, general and specialized day surgery, rehabilitation programs, laboratory services, diagnostic imaging, specialized outpatient clinics, and a 24-hour emergency department. The WestView Health Centre is located north of Edmonton in Stony Plain and provides a wide variety of health services to the community of Parkland County. This is a 68 bed facility and includes hospice care within the continuing care unit. Qualifications: eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Additional training in regional, acute pain, vascular, obstetrical and cardiac will be considered an asset.The successful applicants will be expected to apply for an Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and be willing to be involved in resident teaching and clinical research facilitation Compensation: Remuneration will be based on a fee-for service model with billing directly to Alberta Health.
