Job Title: Spiritual Health Practitioner IIWork Site: VCR Home Hospice Palliative – West BroadwayStatus: Regular Part Time – Baseline (0.5 FTE)Reference#: 106140-tboJob Summary:Reporting to the Director/Manager, the Spiritual Health Practitioner will be responsible for:Assessing individual client needs and providing spiritual care to patients/residents/clients, their family/friends and staff that responds to emotional or spiritual needs and concerns.Collaborating with other health care professionals and community support groups in educational, clinical and research endeavours related to client care, family needs and staff professional development.Working as an active and contributing party within an interdisciplinary team to achieve excellence in client centred care, education and research.Providing educational opportunities for students through mentoring and clinical consultations.In this role, your key partnerships will be with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care – CASC and with community religious/spiritual leaders and faith groups to provide consultation and support on spiritual issues.RotationPlease note the rotation for this position is as follows:Week 1 – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – 8:30 am – 4:30 pm with 30 minute unpaid lunchWeek 2 – Tuesdau & Wednesday – 8:30 am – 4:30 pm with 30 minute unpaid lunchQualifications and Expertise:Qualifications:Master”s Degree with relevant theological/spiritual studies from a recognized institution accredited by the Association of Theological Schools.Five (5) years of recent related experience as a spiritual care practitionerin an institutional setting and completion of two basic and two advanced units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) in a health care setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Valid certification with Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC) as a Specialist in Pastoral Care.An active, ongoing, accountable relationship with a recognized denomination or faith group.Expertise:Specialized knowledge of pastoral/spiritual care and or pastoral counseling theory and practice with individuals, families and groups in a client centered model of care at bedside as well as in more controlled environments.Advanced ability to forge rapport and therapeutic alliance through authentic mindful presence in critical moments with persons experiencing immediate crisis or long term life altering illness/injury.Abilityto effectively and accurately utilize both verbal and written communication skills when obtaining and providing advice/information in a group or individual setting.Working knowledge of bio-medical ethics and a demonstrated ability to work within the spiritual worldview of patients and families to assist them with contextual decision making.Demonstrable Spiritual and Cultural competency in working with a diversity of faiths and cultures and assists clinical teams in providing care that promotes mutual understanding and cooperation between patients, their families and the health care team.An understanding of health care team model and engages in inter-professional dialogue through seeking and providing consultation with professionals in other disciplines.Demonstrated ability to work within the scope of practice articulated in the Ministry of Health document- Spiritual Health – A Framework for British Columbia’s Spiritual Care Professionals and adheres to the code of ethics referenced therein.Ability to actively participate in research initiatives and promote best practices as they relate to spiritual care and well being issues, exhibits expertise in new developments in spiritual care and maintains currency through literature, consultation with experts, clinical practice evaluation and attendance at professional development activities.Computer literacy skills with relevant computer programs for clinical and clerical purposes including quality assurance practices and charting.Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.To Apply:Qualified applicants only please submit a resume and covering letter quoting competition # 106140-tbo.Please note:Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.Only short-listed applicants will be contacted for this posting.VCH Employees *** VCH Employees must apply via the internal application processusing the above noted posting number.
