Senior Operator – Gordondale Gas Plant

Reporting to the Superintendent, the Senior Operator will become completely familiar with all aspects of operations of the plant and running the operations panel. The incumbent would also be able and willing to provide coaching and mentorship to junior personnel.
Located near Spirit River, Alberta, the Gordondale Gas facility is the only facility in the area to offer high efficiency recovery of natural gas liquids (NGLs), also known as deep cut capability. The Plant also has peaking power penerators which serve as emergency back-up generation for the plant as well as generate electricity and supply power to the grid when demand is high or supply is low. This is not a camp based position.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
Thorough knowledge of and is a leader in operations, maintenance and / or repairing of equipment and systems
Lead construction projects, turnaround planning, commissioning, start-ups, small-scale projects and assignments
Support, practice and develop AltaGas operational policies, standards, procedures and practices
Demonstrate strong leadership and superior trouble shooting skills
Recognize and avoid inappropriate risk – consider the consequences and impact before taking action. Strong team player
Provide back up for senior personnel and supervisory personnel and perform the duties temporarily to cover for vacation or special projects
Perform unscheduled and non-routine procedures without direction from senior employees. Lead in coaching, competency testing, mentoring and training of junior employees
May coordinate Emergency Response Plan (ERP) situations. Initiate positive change and continuous improvement
Work well with a wide variety of people – work toward a win / win outcome in relationships with others
Demonstrate leadership qualities and deal with conflicting ideas and attitudes
Grade 12 education or equivalent
3rd or 4th Class Power Engineering certificate
Minimum 5 years of experience working in facility/pipeline operations
Gas plant and power generation experience would be considered an asset
The ability to work under limited supervision, drawing on previous experience, good judgement and standard procedures
Will be responsible to maintain current competencies
