Senior Managers will use their knowledge and advisory skills to effectively grow their client portfolios and relationships. The Senior Manager, Assurance & Accounting, oversees assurance and non-assurance engagements and deliverables directly related to client engagements in accordance with Firm and professional standards. With the development of their knowledge and experience, Managers will have increased responsibilities and accountability for staff development, supervision and engagement.Key Accountabilities and ResponsibilitiesApply all relevant technical knowledge to technical issues arising on client engagements and ensure the issues are addressed and appropriately documented in accordance with the appropriate professional standards and Firm policiesApply appropriate industry/business knowledge in anticipating, identifying and addressing issues relevant to the client’s businessApply effective marketing and selling skills to develop a portfolio of new clientsBegin to develop and build on new business opportunities with existing clients, and continually maintain a positive client relationship, where periodic visits to client sites is requiredComplete the detailed review of assurance and non-assurance engagements and Assurance & Accounting projects to ensure that the engagement/project is in accordance with the relevant professional standards and Firm policiesConduct and assist others on the engagement team with research as necessary on technical matters related to client situationsConduct or provide input into staff performance reviewsDevelop the skills, capabilities and potential of less experienced staff through supervision, coaching, mentoring, knowledge transfer, internal training delivery, and assignment of challenging work opportunitiesEffectively manage and focus Firm resources, apply appropriate industry/business knowledge in anticipating, identifying and addressing issues relevant to the client’s businessEffectively plan, supervise and execute assurance and non-assurance engagements and Assurance & Accounting projects in accordance with all relevant professional standards (accounting, assurance, quality control and ethical standards) and Firm policiesMaintain proficiency in the accounting, assurance, quality control and ethical standards applicable to the client base, including recent changes to those standardsManage the efficient completion of assurance and non-assurance engagements and Assurance & Accounting projects within required budgets and deadlines without sacrificing qualityParticipate in interviews and assist in the selection of new talent during recruitment periodsProvide both technical and project management leadership skills to team members for assurance and non-assurance engagements (audits, reviews, compilations, special reports, etc), and Assurance & Accounting projects (Assurance & Accounting projects may include preparation of financial statements, due diligence procedures, services related to capital raising, and involvement in tax services provided to assurance and non-assurance clients)Work independently on special assignments and more difficult corporate or tax assignments according to business needsEducation and Professional Skills/Knowledge5+ years of professional experience in a public accounting and/or assurance roleProfessional designation required (CA, CMA, CGA or CPA)Bilingual in English and French is considered an assetAdvanced accounting, auditing and tax skillsExperience with Caseware, Caseview and TaxPrep an assetHighly organized and effective coordinatorAbility to deal with pressure, work flexible hours and multi-taskExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to deal with conflict and resolutionExperienced leader with strong team building and coaching skillsCommitted to on-going professional growth and developmentProficiency in Microsoft Office computer programs (Excel and Word)This role requires regular travel to other offices and/or client sites, and can increase in frequency depending on client and/or client needsAbility to prioritize workloads and manage multiple tasks and deadlinesAct as a leader in the Firm, continually focused on employee engagementComplete additional ad-hoc duties or assignments as requiredHigh values in teamwork, client service and professionalismSupport the Vision of the Firm by ensuring the demonstration of our BDO Values and ExpectationsWhy Work for BDO?BDO is the 5th largest accounting and advisory firm in the worldAt BDO, we consider our people to be our most valuable asset; we offer the opportunity to grow and develop in an innovative and collaborative environmentWe offer an unmatched degree of flexibility to help you professionally and personally succeedWe provide competitive salaries, a flexible benefits package and a matching RRSP optionOpportunity to work with like-minded individuals to support career developmentBDO is actively involved in our communities by supporting local charity initiatives, FCC’s “Drive Away Hunger”, Children’s Miracle Network and United WayOur visionThe best professional services firm in the mid-market.#LI-PM1
