Job Title: Registered Nurse – Geriatric Triage – EmergencyWork Site: Lions Gate HospitalStatus: CasualStart Date: As soon as possibleSalary: $33.56 – $44.06 per hourHours: variousReference#: 101435-rleJOB SUMMARY:Within the context of a client and family centred care model, and in accordance with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC) standards of practice, Code of Ethics, and the established mission, vision, values, objectives and policies of the organization, provides on-going assessment, initiates care plans and develops care for the geriatric client anticipating or experiencing episodic acute illness both by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Participates in the coordination of flow of care for designated clients, liaising and communicating with a range of health care professionals and other resources; assesses clients for discharge and implements discharge plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team as appropriate; accesses resources to support discharge plan; establishes therapeutic relationships with clients and families. Consults and collaborates with team members/other caregivers in the identification and resolution of client/family care issues. Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned; responds to a variety of incidents; identifies and reports unsafe practice/professional conduct in accordance with professional standards and organization policies.QUALIFICATIONS:Education & ExperienceCompletion of a recognized advanced program in emergency care nursing or two years’ recent, related experience in an emergency setting working with an aging client population and their families.Current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC).Certification in geriatric specialty program is an asset.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesBroad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client/family centered model of care.Broad knowledge of CRNBC’s standards for nursing practice.Broad knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.Demonstrated ability in nursing practice related to designated client group.Demonstrated ability to plan and implement plans of care in relation to client/family priorities.Demonstrated ability to utilize internal and community resources.Demonstrated ability in interviewing and assessment skills.Demonstrated ability to assess client responses to care, and to respond appropriately.Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in discharge planning with team members.Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.Demonstrated ability to manage aggressive and suicidal behaviour.Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict situations.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing.Demonstrated ability to communicate with, and deal effectively with, clients and their families, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of outside agencies.Demonstrated ability to counsel and teach clients and their families based on their priorities.Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.Demonstrated skill in the use of medical equipment and supplies appropriate to the clinical area.Demonstrated skill in techniques appropriate to the clinical area.Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized patient care information system.Ability to operate related equipment.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.Only short-listed applicants will be contacted for this posting.***Employees of VCH must apply via the Internal Application Process.
