The Family Health division’s focus area is on families with children 0-6 years.Team Specific Responsibilities:Provide direct client service including assessment, counselling, education, support and referral to community resources at the Breastfeeding clinics and home visitsContribute to Peel Public Health’s Nurturing the Next Generation strategic priority through breastfeeding initiatives, including the Baby-Friendly InitiativeApply End-to-End Public Health processes and tools while demonstrating public health nursing core competencies in strategic and operational workMaintain breastfeeding references and resources for the public and Family Health divisionContribute to a positive workplace culture by working effectively on an individual basis and in team environmentsDemonstrate proficiency with Microsoft, booking, and information management systemsGeneral Responsibilities:Apply knowledge regarding concepts of population health status, inequities in health, determinants of health, and strategies for health protection and promotion to guide practiceUtilize research and evidence and apply critical appraisal skills to inform policies, programs and practiceProvide health information, teaching and counselling to clientsUse a holistic approach to assess the health status and functional competence of clients with consideration of the impact of the determinants of healthIdentify and analyze how clients” culture, attitudes, beliefs and feelings about health influence interventionsEstablish mutually determined goals with client, including outcome indicators and evaluative measuresFacilitate client engagement in identifying and defining health issues using community development and community assessment skillsParticipate in the planning, developing, implementation and evaluation of community wide and site specific public health strategies using Evidence Informed Decision Making (EIDM)Advocate for and contribute to the development of healthy public policyCollaborate with partners to identify and address public health issues and service gaps in order to achieve improved health outcomesDevelop, foster and facilitate inter-sectoralpartnerships and networks using team building, negotiation, conflict management and group facilitationDemonstrate culturally sensitive approaches and strategies with diverse populationsCommunicate effectively with internal and external stakeholdersPromote awareness of the Region of Peel and Public Health servicesParticipate in research, quality assurance initiatives, and mentorship opportunities as appropriateAdhere to public health and nursing ethical standards and principlesFulfill legal and professional obligations and responsibilities in accordance with relevant legislation and departmental policies, procedures and medical directives/acts as an ambassador for the Region of Peel, Public Health Services and Public Health NursingPerform other duties as assigned which support the organizational goalsRespond to public health emergencies, significant events and incidents as required by the Health Protection and Promotion Act and Emergency StandardsQualifications:A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or equivalent recognized by a Canadian UniversityCurrent license to practise as a Registered Nurse by the College of Nurses of OntarioExperience in public health or community health nursing is preferredEffective written and oral communication skillsAbility to work effectively both independently and as part of a teamAbility to establish and maintain collaborative working relationshipsAnalytical and problem solving skillsAdvocacy, negotiation and conflict management skillsAssessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation skillsRelevant computer skills (MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and the ability to work with databasesEffective public relations, presentation, public speaking, group facilitation and diplomacy skillsEffective organizational and time management skillsAbility to apply appropriate theory and learning principles to practiceKnowledge of Peel’s diverse community and associated health impactsLocation: 7120 Hurontario St., MississaugaHours of work:Part Time hours 21 hours per week** work days to be scheduled between Monday to Sunday with no guaranteeof set days and potential evening work may be required **Preference will be given to qualified candidates who are currently in the bargaining unit.Ifthis opportunity matches your qualifications and experience, please apply online.At the Region of Peel, we respect diversity and treat one another in ways that are fair, courteous and compassionate, recognizing everyone’s contributions.
