The Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Research (AIRR) team at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute (TRI) invites applications to the position of Postdoctoral Fellow. The project relates to the application of deep learning and computer vision techniques to health monitoring. You will join a leading multi-disciplinary research team centred at TRI, part of the University Health Network and affiliated with the University of Toronto.
TRI is the largest rehabilitation hospital in Canada and is the number one rehabilitation research center in the world. We are affiliated with the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto, one the best CS schools in the world. We are only a few minutes away from the CS building and also from the Vector Institute. You will have a chance to attend seminars, talks, and paper reading sessions.
You will be working with real data, from real patients, and solving real-life healthcare problems. At the same time, there are plenty of inspiring computer science questions and challenges to tackle. So you will have a chance (and you are expected to) conduct computer vision (and/or machine learning) research and publish in major CS (Vision/ML) conferences and journals as well as publications geared towards clinical audiences. We have a goldmine of clinical data, including longitudinal gait and posture data (videos, images, clinical assessments, medication records, etc.) and facial expressions data (images/videos) of adults and older adults with various neurological impairments (e.g. dementia, stroke, ALS).
Multi-disciplinary work experience is a plus, but this could also be an ideal position for a hands-on recent graduate who has proven herself/himself in theoretical and algorithm development/implementation aspects and wants to apply her/his knowledge to solve practical problems in healthcare.
• Ph.D. awarded within the past 5 years in Computer Science or related discipline
• Must have a solid research and publication record related to computer vision and deep learning
• Must have solid programming skills
• Detail-oriented and well organized
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
