We are currently looking for a Platforms Systems Engineer to join our Calgary team. The Platforms team is part of engineering support services and is responsible for designing, integrating, and qualifying communication system installations in a variety of platforms (such as the vehicle, static and soldier platforms).As a member of the Platforms Team, you will be responsible for installation designs of C4ISR systems into military land platforms. If you are looking to work in a fast paced technical environment where you can contribute through superior cable design experience in a strong team dynamic,we encourage you to apply.Monitor, track and submit project metrics, gauging performance for tasks and coordinating effortsEvaluate proposed system designs and determine the implications on a vehicle, static or solider platformConducting herself/himself professionally in all meetings both internal activities and customer attended events.Prepare complex technical documents including: system design documents, interface control documents, requirement specifications, physical architecture documents, and test plans.Develop estimates and plans for tasks, executing in accordance with established system engineering processesIdentify and initiate improvements within the Platforms Team focusing on process, tools and design related issuesWork with various specialty groups to ensure that all tasks receive the required level of expertise. Groups including HFE, ME, Safety & Reliability, E3, SE, ILS, CM, CE, SCM, and RM are all specialty groups that are commonly dealt with during the progress of a taskIdentify and assess risks, and creating and implementing mitigation plans/options.Design communications systems for vehicle, static and solider platforms utilizing knowledge of radio, networking, video, and audio componentsDevelop cable running sheets using knowledge of common protocols and physical layer constraintsReview cable drawings, system diagrams, bill of materials, and other technical documentsInitiate changes utilizing the change control process, asses impacts to design and participate in review boardsConduct trade studies and alternative analysisLead the development of requirements for products or subsystems specificationsLead and contributes to cross disciplinary IPTsLeads technical peer reviews utilizing engineering knowledge and problem solving techniques to highlight issues, solve problems and mitigate riskConduct power analysis on Direct Current (DC) and Alternating Current (AC) equipment loads for system and individual products determining implications on cables, vehicle power systems, batteries etc. Bachelor”s degree in Electrical/Electronic or related technical/scientific degreeMinimum of 4+ years of related experienceKnowledge of C4ISR and related systemStrong problem solving and troubleshooting abilitiesExperience with planning and managing tasksThe ability to communicate complex technical problems effectively to experts and non technical individualsMinimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security ClearanceApplicants will be required to obtain/hold a valid and current Canadian security clearance to gain access to the classified spaces, information and equipment in order to perform the work associated with this position.General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is committed to employment equity and diversity in the workplace.
