Hours : Primarily Days, Monday to Friday – Various rotating shifts — 8 hours. Requires shift or weekend work. (subject to change based on operational requirements)
Site : Primarily Oakville. May include assignments at the Milton and Georgetown sites.
This is what you’ll be doing :
We are currently seeking a Pharmacist to maintain, analyze, optimize, and adapt our Pharmacy and medication information systems and associated automated technologies.
Medication related systems and technologies currently in place include: Meditech Client Server PHA and MM modules, Meditech Oncology module, Meditech electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR) and Bedside Medication Verification (BMV) using bar code scanning, Iatric PDI and PDRx (for Medication Reconciliation and discharge prescriptions), Omnicell automated dispensing cabinets and associated system features (Anywhere RN, Singlepointe, SafetyStock, Pandora), online medication order management system (OmniLinkRx), PALP accessory bar code labelling system, TPN Compounder, ATP, Autoprint and Fluidose unit dose packagers, Medidose packaging software and the Swisslog BoxPicker and PillPick robots. Awareness of emerging technologies in pharmacy practice.
Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, Technology and Integration, the Pharmacist, Pharmacy Informatics will be responsible for:
Updating and maintaining Pharmacy Meditech dictionaries and related materials (i.e. reference materials, training manuals)
Incorporating new hospital programs, services, technologies, systems, products and standards into existing systems
Liaising with staff, management, vendors, system providers
Maintaining expert level knowledge (receiving additional training as needed) of assigned systems and equipment so that they are able to act as a technical resource and expert user, and troubleshoot performance issues for internal and external Pharmacy Department customers
Identifying and investigating specific operational problems within Pharmacy and with medication use processes and preparing proposals for system or technological solutions to resolve same
Assisting with the development, review, and revision of informatics related operating standards, policies and procedures so as to ensure safe medication practices and optimal workflow
Testing hardware and software. Keeping abreast of software and interface changes and upgrades and developing and executing plans for their testing and implementation
Performing acceptance testing of future equipment additions
Collaborating with Pharmacy Management and stakeholders to develop, organize, administer, monitor and evaluate educational training programs for Pharmacy and other clinical end users on the relevant Meditech and associated modules and software components of Pharmacy equipment
Contributing to the quality improvement and patient safety program by monitoring Pharmacy and medication system related indicators and adherence to policies and procedures. Assisting Pharmacy Management with problem solving and development of solutions for same
Identifying risk management issues and assisting in mitigating or resolving them, including auditing and follow-up.
Monitoring system utilization & stability and enhancements of software and reporting
Evaluating system user satisfaction
Identifying, establishing and performing, where applicable, preventative maintenance to maintain or improve reliability of Pharmacy systems
Developing and/or providing statistical and functional reports for Pharmacy Management and assisting with interpretation
Acting as an early adopter and role model
Assisting with related drug distribution, patient profile and set-up tasks required prior to and during installation of new systems and equipment
Maintaining an active Pharmacist license, including performing direct patient care duties on a regular basis as well as dispensing/distribution functions
Maintaining and applying
knowledge of collaborative networks, professional and legislative provisions and best practice(s) related to Pharmacy informatics, medication use processes, and Pharmacy practice
Actively participating in and contributing to related committees, task groups, and project teams

B.Sc. Phm. required
Licensed under Part A of the Ontario College of Pharmacists register required
Minimum 2 years experience working in a hospital Pharmacy Department required
Strong knowledge of computer fundamentals and technologies required
Sound knowledge of Pharmacy information systems and databases (Meditech Client Server 5.66 version preferred)
Experience with systems administration of Pharmacy automation equipment required (e.g. dispensing cabinets, high speed packagers, robotic packaging or picking equipment, bar code verification, etc.)
Experience with computerized provider order entry (CPOE) systems is an asset
Experience in the development of formal written policies and procedures and training materials required
Strong analytical skills including experience using data and research to support recommendations
Previous experience in training adult computer users required
Demonstrated high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Excellent problem recognition and problem solving skills
Proficient in the Windows suite of Operating Systems and the Microsoft Office product line
Experienced in implementing and supporting systems and applications, project management, workflow analysis, and benefits maximization
Experience with formal Project Management principles and techniques is an asset
Able to handle multiple responsibilities with competing priorities in a fast-paced progressive environment
Must be well-organized, self-directed, set priorities, and manage time effectively
Must be able to interact patiently, effectively, and professionally with staff and physicians
Excellence in interpersonal communication and presentation skills, clear written and verbal communication with professional, technical, and non-technical staff, interdisciplinary teams, and with all levels of management
Effective negotiation and communication skills coupled with the ability to advocate and educate
Committed to service excellence and patient safety
Flexible, punctual and have a satisfactory employment and attendance record
