You find this challenge just what you are looking for!Reporting to the Program Manager of Correctional Education, the personal development instructor will work out of the newly built Edmonton Remand Centre supporting the educational needs of the remanded inmates. This role is responsible for delivering a range of personal development courses at the Edmonton Remand Centre (ERC). These include Life Management Skills, Anger Management, Prevention of Family Violence, Release Planning, and Employment Skills. The instructor is also responsible for revising and updating curricula for these programs and sharing revised curriculum with all other faculty members. There may be opportunities for appropriately certified B Ed. instructors to instruct academic upgrading or computer skills classes.QUALIFICATIONS:Currently working towards or completed undergraduate degree in Education, Psychology or Social Work Masters degree in adult education, correctional education, aboriginal studies or educational leadership would be an assetDemonstrated experience and training in Adult Education Experience working in a maximum or medium security environment preferred with knowledge of the Solicitor General, prison issues and relevant Community supportsOne year minimum teaching or program facilitation experience with highly developed classroom management and interpersonal skillsRelated experience working with a challenging at risk populationKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Strong capability to work demonstrating high professional standards with students of varying levels of academic ability and within a very diverse group Keen awareness and appreciation of demands of a secure environment Strong demonstrated ability to role model and mentor positive styles of behavior and social interactionAbility to facilitate personal development and employment programs and to liaise with outside education institutions and community supports.Ability to work independently and in a team environmentRESPONSIBILITES:Teaching and facilitating personal development and employment programming Revising and updating curriculum for personal development coursesFulfilling a liaison role with Solicitor General operational and correctional staff, particularly on student movement and prospective studentsProvide education liaison counsel services for remanded personsEvaluating of programming outcomes, including documenting and communicating feedback to the Team Leader and Program ManagerCompleting student evaluations for both NorQuest College and Solicitor General reporting requirements Advising students on educational paths and possibilitiesRigorously respect all conditions of the secure environment at correctional facilities sitesCommittee work as assignedSALARY: Commensurate with education and experience. This opportunity also includes immediate participation in our comprehensive pension and benefits plans.NOTE: This is a term certain position with an end date of June 30, 2019 with a possibility of extension.
