Competition #18/207Internal/External Posting Closing date: October 24, 2018Parking Ambassador (3 – Auxiliary) Finance Department POSITION FUNCTIONProvide pro-active customer service on-street and enforce parking regulations to ensure high turnover of parking spaces on-street. KEY DUTIESRepresent the City of Victoria positively as a resource to downtown visitors and motorists; provide proactive customer service to support tourism and customer experience such as provide directions, or information about City services.Enforce parking regulations in manner consistent with the City’s customer service focus. Provide education on how to use parking equipment and technology, offer alternatives and options for parking; identify and communicate to supervisor any hazards or issues within the community such as full garbage cans, vandalism or street cleaning issues.Perform related duties where qualified.INDEPENDENCEWork is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.Problems are referred to supervisor.WORKING CONDITIONSPhysical Effort:Walk approximately 18-20 km per day. (frequent)Mental Effort:Deal with high volume of customers. (occasional)Deal with negative complaints and comments. (rare)Visual/Auditory Effort:Normal.Work Environment:Work outside in all weather conditions. (continuous)Work in close proximity to moving traffic. (rare)KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge and understanding of Victoria geography and neighbourhoods, the needs of downtown businesses and the importance of safe and effective parking services.Respond proactively to customers and customer complaints, and take initiative to respond.Strong communication and customer service skills.Ability to apply sound judgmentAbility to maintain accurate records.Ability to multi-task with a positive, outgoing attitude.Work safely.QUALIFICATIONSFormal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:Grade 10.WorldHost customer service training (30 hours)Current and valid Class 5 B.C.
