The position entails working within Strive Centre’s recreation and outreach team, supporting individuals with Developmental, Concurrent Disorders, FASD, Autism, ABI and mental health issues, in a group and one to one capacity. The successful candidate would share their time between making connections in the community and linking participants to those connections as well as assisting individuals in the community and in their home, to work towards their goals, teaching life skills, community integration and social skills.The successful candidate possesses excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, establishes and maintains rapport with clients, analyzes and resolves problems, encourages and motivates clients to participate in programs, completes proper documentation of client’s progress, provides personal care on occasion and attend staff meetings. Recreation Facilitator positions available:Monday to Friday 10am to 4:30 pm (30 hours per week) – Rec Certificate or related experience of group facilitation requiredMonday to Friday 12pm to 5pm (25 hours per week) -Rec Certificate or related experience of group facilitation requiredMonday to Friday 9:30 am to 6pm (40 hours per week) – Outreach SupportCasual Rec or Outreach Facilitators also neededHas a broad knowledge of various diagnosis, abilities and mental health/addictionsDemonstrate effective computer skillsAbility to act with integrity and trust, helps to build a healthy team environment, communicates clearly, fosters potential in others, and acts as a positive role model.Demonstrated ability to teach and empower individuals to take responsibility for their own healthSkill in the use and maintenance of specialized and adaptive equipment.Ability to create an atmosphere of support and confidenceAbility to teach lifeskills in a group setting (between 3-10 individuals)Ability to design, Implement and evaluate recreation programsAbility to adapt programs to meet individual needsKnowledgeable of creating independence vs. creating dependenceCompleting daily documentation on a Microsoft platform databaseIdentifying and linking individuals to community resourcesAble to facilitate regular midrange to large scale events for between 4 – 20 clientsCommunity IntegrationAble to set firm boundariesPositive “can do” attitudeSome behavior managementAbility to encourage, motivate and involve client in community activities.Access to computer and internetProven ability to develop rapport with adults in a variety of contexts.Demonstrated ability to work with adults with behavioural, social, emotional and mental health/psychiatric issuesExperience working with marginalized populationAbility to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with educational personnel, social workers and resource workers, service providers and partnersAble to self-start, make judgment calls, and create new models/programs as neededAbility to work within a multi-disciplinary team environmentProven ability to work with minimal supervisionOne year of recent, related experience preferred or rec certificateCriminal record clearanceTB testMinimum of three (3) referencesValid BCDL and reliable vehicle to use for work purposesAdditional Requirements:Current First Aid CPR CertificateFood Safe Certification an assetMANDT Certification an assetCompensation starting at $20.07-21.14/hr, plus benefits upon meeting eligibility requirements.We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only short-listed candidates will be contacted for an interview.Strive Living Society is an equal opportunity employer which does not discriminate against age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, or disability.
