POSITION:Temporary Part-Time Music Therapist Until approximately May 1, 2020HOURS OF WORK:Monday – Wednesday (3 days)7.5 Hour ShiftsJOB SUMMARY:At Grand River Hospital, we work with the communities we serve towards life-long health and well-being for all. If you are a Music Therapist, we would like you to become a part of our team.Reporting to the Clinical Managers of the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services, you will work with our inpatient and outpatient interdisciplinary services. Within the context of a patient centered care model, within the vision and values of Grand River Hospital, and in accordance with the Canadian Association of Music Therapy’s (CAMT) standards of professional practice, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:•Develops, implements, and evaluates client treatment plans and provides music therapy to promote, maintain, and restore patient’s mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health•Works effectively with members of the multidisciplinary teams and participates in multidisciplinary team meetings, provides formal and informal consultations to other staff/community music therapists and supervises and evaluates the work activities of music therapy practicum students and interns•Collaborates with others regarding operational issues and concerns; liaises with the Professional Practice Director regarding practice issues Participates in service committees and quality improvement initiatives as required•Engages in professional development and continuing education•Assists with program development and evaluation as required Participates in team building, service development and improvement activities striving to contribute to a healthy workplace environment•Other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS:•Master’s Degree in Music Therapy from an accredited University•Advanced musical training, BMus preferred, recommended grade 9 RCM on principal instrument•Experience in child & adolescent mental health and basic understanding of frequently used assessment procedures, treatment plans and fundamental psychological theories•Basic understanding of addictions and recovery philosophy•Accredited OR pursuing accreditation with the CAMT•Membership in CAMT and/or Music Therapy Association of Ontario (MTAO)•Pursuing membership with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)•Demonstrated ability to provide music therapy to patients•CAMNT internship supervision training an asset•Demonstrated maturity and excellent interpersonal skills•Broad knowledge of music therapy theory and practice, harmony, theory and history, improvisation styles, solo/ensemble playing, composition and conducting•Basic training in psychotherapy, basic counseling skills•Demonstrated ability to provide individualized music therapy treatment plans as well as clinical progress reports for individuals within the mental health client population•Demonstrated ability to carry out in-service music therapy education for other GRH staff.•Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict situations Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing•Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team setting •Basic computer literacy with word processing and database skills •Willingness to investigate music from different cultures as it relates to current patient population•Willingness to pursue continuing education as clinician and musician•Proven ability to work effectively with other health care providers and community service and school board providers•Excellent organizational, time-management, prioritization and problem-solving abilities•Proven to have strong interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills•Proficiency in Microsoft word with strong keyboarding skills •Good attendance record
