Working under minimum supervision the MicroStrategy Developer contributes to Wawanesa’s success by maintaining and supporting business systems and applications.
Plan, design, development and testing of software.
Ability to interact with clients and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Participate in the preparation of technical specifications from requirements.
Creation and maintenance of relevant documentation.
Define, measure, analyze, improve and control the established practices, processes, and guidelines.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents and production issues.
Participate in planning activities to define scope within a release deliverable.
Work with Data Management project team to develop MicroStrategy reports and dashboards.
Assist in functional and system testing of integrated reporting applications, dashboards and KPI’s.
Mentoring junior developers.
Keep current with relevant technologies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum two to four years of MicroStrategy, or relevant reporting tool experience, with expertise in grid reports, report services documents and visualizations.
Experience in architecting MicroStrategy metadata and schema objects as well as applying advanced administration, management and performance tuning techniques is desired.
Minimum 3 years practical experience working with relational database systems and structure query languages.
Strong knowledge of SQL, including the ability to build and debug/maintain complicated SQL queries and understanding of dimensional modeling is required.
Familiarity with the program’s 3-Tier architecture is an asset.
Detail oriented with analytical and problem-solving skills to recognize and identify issues and take proper action to resolve them.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with style fitting for the audience and message.
Strong planning and organizing skills, with the ability to develop and implement plans by prioritizing and multi-tasking.
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with the ability to coach others in order to effectively accomplish team objectives.
Possesses a willingness to learn while keeping abreast of developments in field.
Post-secondary degree/certificate from a computer science program of a recognized university or college or the equivalent in experience and education.
Experience using tools such as JIRA, Confluence, SharePoint, Source Code Management is considered an asset.
Knowledge and experience working in the insurance industry is considered an asset.
Knowledge and experience working in an Enterprise Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence environment is considered an asset.
