We currently have an opportunity for a Regular Full Time
Medical Physicist in the Medical Physics Department located at the Bayview Campus.
Summary of Duties
The Medical Physics Department at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre / Odette Cancer Centre (OCC) in Toronto, Ontario, has an opening for a regular full-time medical physicist. The OCC is a comprehensive cancer centre and the sixth largest cancer program in North America. The OCC provides outstanding patient care, research, and teaching. The centre treats about 6000 new patients per year. The Radiation Treatment Program has thirteen state-of-the-art linear accelerators, including an MR-linac; a dedicated MR-guided brachytherapy suite that houses extensive programs in both HDR and LDR brachytherapy; an orthovoltage unit; and a GammaKnife. Planning equipment includes three CT simulators; a PET/CT simulator; 1.5 T and 3 T MR simulators; and a software environment that includes Pinnacle, Mim, Oncentra, Variseed, and Monaco. There are multi-disciplinary programs in image-guided brachytherapy, SABR, SRS/SRT, IGRT, ultrasound, optical imaging, PET/CT, 4DCT, adaptive radiotherapy, gating, MRI, and nanoparticle radiosensitization.
The medical physics department comprises twenty-one medical physicists, five physics associates, four machine shop technologists, five electronics technologists, and four physics IT personnel.
The Department of Medical Physics seeks a qualified medical physicist in radiation oncology. Clinical duties include: acceptance and commissioning of equipment; development & implementation of new techniques and technologies; physics support for external beam and brachytherapy procedures; consultation with radiation therapists and physicians; quality improvement; and participation in clinical site teams.
Candidates must be eligible for certification as a qualified medical physicist in Canada. The preferred candidate will have a graduate degree in medical physics or a related field and research experience. Candidates must have excellent communication skills and be willing to work as part of a large multidisciplinary team. Medical physicists who excel in clinical operations, quality improvement, research, and teaching are encouraged to apply.
