Sponsorship Eligibility Expires:2019-01-30 Responsibilities/Duties: The Department of Oncology CancerControl Alberta, Alberta Health Services invites applications for a full time (1.0 FTE) Medical Oncologist position to start by August 1, 2018 or earlier at the Grande Prairie Cancer Centre (GPCC) in Grande Prairie, Alberta.The successful applicant will join a team of multidisciplinary cancer programs and a team of Medical and Radiation Oncologists, Nurse Practitioners and other medical support staff in the Edmonton and North zones.CancerControl Alberta, Alberta Health Services provides strong mentorship and professional development support and promotes active academic collaboration between the colleagues in the regional and tertiary Oncology sites in Alberta. CancerControl Alberta is currently working on a clinical trial program initiative in the Community Oncology, and the successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to contribute to the clinical trial program development.The successful candidate will be expected to participate in local and provincial tumor team based activities including clinical case reviews at tumor board rounds, annual, provincial tumor team meetings, local quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives.GPCC is one of four Regional Cancer Centres within CancerControl Alberta’s Community Oncology portfolio. Serving Northern Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia, cancer care practice at the GPCC is centered on 7 major tumor groups, with rarer tumors managed in conjunction with consultation and expertise from the tertiary centers in Edmonton and Calgary. The GPCC location is currently within the Queen Elizabeth II Regional Hospital. A new facility is being built, and the successful candidate will have an opportunity to participate in the upcoming opening of the new GPCC within the new Regional Hospital in 2019. Additional Notes About Grande Prairie Grande Prairie is an ever-growing community, which serves a trading area of over 281,000 people. It is the youngest community in Canada, with an exceptionally low median age of 30.3. Located 460km northwest of Edmonton, the capital city of Alberta and approximately 120km from the British Columbia border, this community is active and vibrant year round. Grande Prairie, otherwise known as “The Swan City” due to its proximity to the summer nesting grounds of the trumpeter swan, has plenty of outdoor activities, including music and film festivals, a large “Stompede”, an annual rodeo, and is surrounded by scenic parks and lakes. Qualifications: The successful applicant will be expected to deliver excellent patient care and must be eligible for licensure in Alberta and must have obtained Fellowship in Medical Oncology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada by the time Qualifications include an MD, certification in Internal Medicine, special competency in Medical Oncology (or equivalent), and eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta. The candidate must also be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. They must read, write, and speak English fluently. Compensation: CancerControl Alberta, Alberta Health Services offers an attractive compensation, benefits and relocation assistance package. The annual compensation will be calculated in accordance with the CancerControl Alberta Physician compensation grid for Medical Oncologists $314,781.00 – $453,117.00 dependent on qualifications, training and experience.Based on the primary residence, the successful applicant may be eligible for Canada Student Loan forgiveness under the Federal Government program for family doctors and nurses. The successful applicant may also be eligible for the Federal Government’s Northern Resident Deduction, as Grande Prairie is included in the prescribed intermediate zone.
