The responsibilities of this position encompass many areas and disciplines within an advanced server and storage technology infrastructure environment.The candidate must possess good technical ability, planning and design skills and be an analytical thinker. Additionally, the candidate must be well organized, possess excellent writing skills and be an effective communicator. The position can engage users at all levels of the college including, but not limited to: senior leaders, managers, consultants, vendors and stakeholders through individual contact, group meetings, and as a committee participant. The position will be an important contributor to ensuring that NorQuest Educational and Information Technologies is able to meet the College’s goals and objectives.RESPONSIBILITIES:Server and Storage infrastructure support and maintenanceResponsible for maintaining and supporting all server and storage infrastructure including server and storage hardware and operating systems.Configure and maintain server and storage technologies, working with service providers to ensure Internet transit services are active and available.Plans and executes complicated deployment of, and upgrades to, major server and storage componentsResearch and identify opportunities surrounding technology advances.Creates updates and maintains server/storage design and configuration documentation.Accept and work on issues from ticketing system.Travel to remote sites as required.Server/Storage design, planning and implementationProvide inputs to design and architecture of server and storage environmentDevelop, and install solutions to complex technical problemsPlans, designs, deploys and manages the internetworking of server and storage equipment and components College wideAssist with design, and implement, and test information technology security mechanisms and systems in the context of the server and storage infrastructure.Assist in evaluations of vendor products in server and storage technology and recommend purchases consistent with short- and long-term objectivesCustomer Relations and communicationsWorks closely with staff and faculty to determine business needsDemonstrates ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing.QUALIFICATIONS:Must hold, as a minimum, either a two-year diploma from a post-secondary institution in a field of study directly related to the position, or a Bachelor’s degree in Information & Technology or a related discipline. Experience and equivalencies may be considered. No additional credentials required, however additional qualifications, post-secondary education, training or credentials related to key responsibilities of this position are desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with current, relevant network certifications. Minimum two years of experience performing the activities normally associated with this role. Experience with network switching, routing and security would be considered an asset.Must have good written and communication skills.Effectively communicates with team members, managers, staff and faculty.Strong facilitation, collaboration and consensus building with team members, managers, staff, and others from within the college and external.Ability to effectively communicate under stressful circumstances during; unplanned outages, unforeseen emergencies and ever-changing operational priorities.
