The HR Generalist will assist the HR Manager with all divisional Human Resources and related functions, while maintaining confidentiality.
Performs key responsibilities, as directed by the Human Resources Manager.
•Provide guidance and instruction to employees and managers on Human Resources Programs and divisional policies and procedures.
•Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of new programs, Employee Opinion Survey’s/Focus Groups, Wage and Benefits Survey, Fairness Committee and other HR functions/Action plans.
•Implement and coordinate the recruitment and selection process for the internal and external job posting process for all employees under the management level.
•Assumes responsibility for the new hire/onboarding process. Coordinate and conduct new hire/HR orientation to all new employees.
•Maintain Open Door policy and follow up on employee concerns.
•Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of appropriate documentation throughout employment history for all employees.
•Maintain positive employee relations.
•Ensure fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
•Ensures HR tools and practices are applied consistently across the Division.
•Assists managers/supervisors in dealing with employee issues including conflict resolution, investigations and providing guidance.
•Research current market compensation data and trends and provide recommendations accordingly.
•Ensure a daily presence on the shop floor and provide flexible coverage across shifts as required.
•Supports the organization to promote overall employee satisfaction. (EOS, Committees)
•Plan & Coordinate employee social activities/events.
Administration of employee promotional events.
•Support the performance management process at the Division.
•Support communication vehicles throughout the Division.
•Develop, coordinate and schedule internal and external training for employees as per the annual training plan, training gap analyses and divisional needs.
•Maintain training program including updating master spreadsheet, issue training cards and modify assessment tools accordingly.
•Actively participate in the HR Assessment/Audits and EOS and have an active role in the completion of subsequent action plans and focus groups.
•Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
•Support divisional Mafact activities.
•Assist in the development and implementation of new/improved HR forms & documentation.
•Leverage existing HRIS (ie: PeopleSoft/PeopleNet) database information to compile and analyse reports and make recommendations as needed.
•Contributes to Job Description development and participates in job evaluations.
•Prepare and deliver presentations at monthly employee meetings.
•Assist with claims administration and management.
•Maintain current knowledge of all related employment legislation (i.e. Human Rights Act, Employment Standards, Employment Equity, Labor Relations Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and Workplace Safety & Insurance Act).
•Provide PeopleNET support to employees and managers. Generate reports as required.
•Provide employees with benefits information and respond to benefits inquiries.
•Prepare, maintain and update employee databases (i.e. PeopleSoft, training, employee lists) and various related reports.
•Adhere to the guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
•Perform other duties and projects as assigned by Human Resources Manager.
Knowledge and Education
•Post Secondary Education in Human Resources Management, and working towards CHRL designation.
•Minimum five (5) years previous experience in Human Resources, manufacturing environment preferred.
Skills and Competencies
•Self-starter; able to take initiative and work independently.
•Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
•Demonstrated ability to work under pressure.
•Professional, friendly and exceptional interpersonal skills (written, verbal, listening).
•Effective organizational skills.
•Previous experience in recruitment & selection, training assessment, performance management, employee relations and compensation management.
•Ability to implement programs on a plant wide level.
•Able to recognize the position as one of a highly trusted and confidential nature.
•Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and prioritize a heavy workload.
•Office and shop floor environment
•Overtime hours may be required
•Day/overnight and/or extended travel may be required
