Job Title: Healthy Living Exercise SpecialistWork Site: Pacific Spirit Community Health CentreStatus: CasualStart Date: As soon as possibleSalary: $29.63 – $36.93 per hourHours: 0900-1700Reference#: 104879-malJob Summary:Within the context of a client and family centered care model and the vision and values of Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), the Healthy Living Exercise Specialist works as part of a interdisciplinary team to do the following:Implementing exercise rehabilitation services by planning and leading individual and group exercise sessions, facilitating health education workshops, and advising clients on suitable exercise regimes;Administering exercise programs designed to enhance aerobic endurance, cardiovascular function, muscular strength, and endurance, balance and range of motion;Supporting pre-participation health screening and implementing physician exercise prescriptions;Collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare team to enhance quality of life, manage health risk, monitor progress, and promote lasting health behaviour change for clients challenged with chronic diseases and disorders in order to maximize the client’s capabilities; and,Ensuring the integration and coordination of quality care in the exercise service.Qualifications:Education & Experience:Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology or Human Kinetics from a recognized program.Two (2) years’ recent, related experience in working in a rehabilitation environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Eligibility for certification from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP).Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesDemonstrated ability to conduct individual and/or group exercise programs.Demonstrated ability to modify exercise for limitations.Demonstrated ability to recognize and respond to complications.Demonstrated ability to develop educational/resource programs and materials for clients and staff.Ability to educate, demonstrate, facilitate, motivate and coach clients in exercise rehabilitation.Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.Ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.Ability to communicate respectfully, tactfully and effectively with co-workers, physicians and other health care staff and clients both one-on-one and in groups.Knowledge of research process and methodology.Demonstrated ability of CPR techniques and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)Broad knowledge of American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) standards of practice.Broad knowledge of the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) standards of practice.Computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet and database skills.Ability to use related equipmentPhysical ability to perform the duties of the position.Please note:The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.Only short-listed applicants will be contacted for this posting.***Employees of VCH must apply via theInternal Application Process.
