The Borden project is located near Chapleau, Ontario, approximately 160 kilometers west of Timmins.
The project has the potential to further enhance the long-term economics of PGM. A pre-feasibility study has been completed to determine the optimization of a combined Borden-Porcupine operation. An Advanced Exploration permit has been received in April 2017 and the construction of a ramp was initiated at the Borden mine site. This will allow for an extraction of a 30,000 ton bulk sample and provide an underground platform for exploration drilling of a deposit that still remains open at depth and laterally.
Ground Control Engineer
Borden Gold Project – Chapleau, ON
The Ground Control Engineer will provide direction and support to the underground operations group to ensure ground control systems are designed, installed and maintained in accordance with company policy and regulations.
This position will conduct ground control inspections as required and maintain ground control documents to meet legislative and company requirements.
Promote innovation and continuous improvement in safety by reviewing existing and new technology applicable to ground control.
Promote and adhere to Company safety policies.
Promote the everyday use of the Golden Guide and Technical Companion.
Review and ensure compliance with ground control related regulations, policies and standards at all PGM operations.
Review and if required revise ground control requirements and procedures at all PGM operations.
As required, respond rapidly to ground control issues and failures at the operating mines.
Complete appropriate reporting and initiate action plans that will remove potential future hazards both in the affected area and similar areas.
Take a proactive role in assessing ground control risks at the operations and put systems into place that will mitigate risk to manageable/safe levels.
Interact and manage consultants as required.
Monitors and initiates rehabilitation of mine openings as required.
Oversees and/or performs quality control, quality assurance checks required for ground support systems, (i.e. torque test, pull tests)
Oversees projects as required from time to time.
Participate in the creation of the engineering and operations budgets (operating and capital) to ensure geotechnical aspect of mining are budget for appropriately.
Manage consultant timelines and costs to deliver projects on time and budget.
A Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering.
Minimum 3 years of mine operation and engineering experience.
Experience in a leadership role is an asset.
Be technically competent and have a good understanding of
basic Rock Mechanics and Ground Control principles, assessment techniques, remedial methods, instrumentation and products.
Have strong communication and people skills.
Be focused, clear, and decisive.
Able to work closely with operations, geology, environmental, project departments.
