Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently recruiting an Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety Technician / Technologist to join our team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This is an exciting entry level opportunity for early career candidates looking to increase their skillsets and work on unique and exciting projects.The position will provide support to our dynamic health, safety and environment team in by conducting a wide range of field assignments, remedial activities and report writing.This is a short term assignment with an anticipated duration of 3 months (August – November 2018).KeyResponsibilities Typical duties may include: Assisting with designated substances and hazardous materials surveys and preparing management plans (i.e. lead, mercury, asbestos, PCBs, mould, etc.)Assisting with environmental site assessments including conducting site visits, data collection, utility locates, soil sampling and groundwater monitoringConducting field inspections and sampling programs during contaminated soil excavations, tank removals, asbestos abatement and mould remediationGroundwater monitoringAssisting in the completion of occupational hygiene field programs including noise and worker exposure monitoringUse of a wide range of assessment and monitoring instrumentationWork in the field and laboratory settingsPhase Contrast Microscopy analysis for asbestos and other fibresConduct field safety meetingsCompletion of field reports and data entryAssisting project managers in technical assignments including assessment and abatement programs, specification development, and reportingWork off-hour shifts and weekends as required in order to accommodate assessment and inspection services required as part of evening, night and weekend workWork on project sites within Manitoba and occasional out of province including working in conjunction with other officesRelevant experience or experience in a construction, health and safety, building science or environmental field an assetDiploma in relevant discipline – Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental or Engineering Technology.OHS, asbestos and/or mould training or experience considered an assetMust be fit to wear a respirator and able to work at heights and in confined spaces with appropriate training (provided by Wood)Strong workplace safety practices and trainingClass 5 driver’s license and a good driving record (driving abstract required)Participate in criminal records checks and/or drug screening for site accessGood report writing skills and demonstrated word processing and computer skillsBasic surveying and AutoCAD skills an assetStrong people skills with an ability to work in a team environmentSelf-motivated with good organizational skills, can take initiative, handle challenges, prioritize multiple tasks, and provide superior service to clientsWood is a global leader in the delivery of project, engineering and technical services to energy and industrial markets.
