Dock Supervisor (cross dock)

As a Dock Supervisor, you are accountable for ensuring that the dock employees are working in a safe and efficient manner. You are responsible to ensure smooth operations, efficiencies, people management, freight flow, change implementation, and safety, aligned to operational expectations and guidelines. This position is all about the effective management of freight flow through the management of people and safety, continuous improvement, problem solving and effective communication.
To be successful in this role, you will effectively complete the following (not an exhaustive list of responsibilities):
Supervise a fast paced and high volume LTL Dock Operation.
Provide guidance by exhibiting a positive attitude, developing collaborative working relationships, and providing clear direction to employees.
Ability to communicate clear expectations and hold team accountable recognizing the variable hours of a 24/7 operation.
Understand our processes, policies and practices to make informed decisions – based on the safety, service, and productivity standards in the terminal
Maintain good working relationships with drivers, manage time effectively, and operate in an independent and capable manner
Responsible for dock safety for self and employees, and corrects any safety issues within their control, escalates concerns to the Operations Manager where required.
Work with the team to improve current processes and create efficiencies.
To be qualified for this role, please ensure your resume clearly displays some or all of the following:
Previous Transportation, trucking or operational experience is necessary on a cross dock, various roles within transportation would be beneficial. Lead hand or supervisor experience (minimum 1-2 years)
Attention to detail and well organized
Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
This is a 24/7 operation and therefore you must be flexible and willing to any work schedule
In-depth knowledge of safety practices
Operational Certifications (Forklift, TDG, WHMIS)
Computer skills – accuracy, MS products, AS400, web based programs
Demonstrated customer relationship skills
Strong conflict resolution skills
Able to work deadlines in high transactional environment
Ability to champion business needs in a collaborative manner to colleagues
Results focused
Minimum of secondary education,with preference of post-secondary education (general stream), or a combination of education and experience.
The working environment can include physical labour (bending crouching, etc.), outside in varying weather conditions, loud machinery, operating a Driving Powered Industrial Vehicle (PIV) in congested areas.
