Position : Decision Support Analyst
Decision Support – Nephrology Program
Permanent Full-time
Monday to Friday – 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (hours are subject to change based on operational needs)
Oakville Site (travel to other sites is required)
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director of Decision Support, the Decision Support Analyst is primarily responsible for analyzing, monitoring, interpreting and reporting on various data holdings specific to the Nephrology Program. This individual supports the Nephrology Program through the maintenance and oversight of processes related to mandatory external data submissions and reporting to the Ontario Renal Network – specifically through the Ontario Renal Reporting System (ORRS). The Analyst responds to routine ad hoc data requests to promote evidence-based decision making and meet the needs of the Nephrology Program leadership in a timely manner. The Analyst will ensure the Nephrology Program level performance data reporting is aligned with the hospital’s corporate data collection and reporting standards. The Analyst will contribute to the development of guiding principles for information management within the department and will support scorecard performance reporting. The Analyst will also interface with various external information management entities, such as the Ontario Renal Network, local Health Integration Network and Canadian Institute for Health Information to fulfill certain external reporting obligations.
Major Responsibilities:
Acts as a liaison between Decision Support, the CKD Program, Business Operations, and Information Services, for resolving issues related to renal data holdings.
Provides data analysis and support in the maintenance and data reporting processes performed within the Nephrology Program – specifically the Ontario Renal Reporting System (ORRS).
Handles routine requests for analysis, reporting and preparing of presentations for Nephrology Program, senior healthcare providers and leaders across the Hospital as required.
Acts as a subject matter expert on information and business intelligence solutions relevant to the Nephrology Program and educates others on how to use and analyze the information in various data holdings that would benefit the Nephrology Program.
Provides support to address Nephrology Program data quality issues including the monitoring and leading regular data quality review meetings with relevant team members.
Participates in other processes related to mandatory external reporting submissions and ad hoc performance reporting as required.
Participates in other Decision Support functions where required that may include additional program support and corporate reporting
Undergraduate degree in Health Informatics, HIM Certified (CHIMA member), Health Administration, Health Sciences, Business, Economics.
3-5 years’ relevant experience required preferably in a decision support environment.
Knowledge of Ontario’s Health System Funding Reform, QBPs, ORN / CCO data quality and reporting processes, ORRS, SRI reporting requirements for Nephrology.
Strong interest in providing analysis and data reporting support in a healthcare setting required and experience in Nephrology Program data analysis is an asset.
Knowledge of hospital data sources, information systems, performance indicators, data management and/or benchmarking activities in a hospital setting required.
Advanced experience using of Microsoft tools (e.g. Excel, Access) required.
Visit registration, scheduling and general Meditech knowledge is essential.
Familiarity with healthcare databases (e.g. CIHI, DAD/NACRS) required.
Data management and/or analysis software experience (e.g. SAS/SQL BI) is an asset.
Technical expertise related to data models and database design and development is an asset.
Comfortable working with stakeholders in a facilitative and consultative manner.
Excellent writing and editing skills, including the ability to accurately summarize and communicate information
