Job Description
The
Benefits Specialist
assists with the administration of the company’s benefit and pension plans. This position also supports and maintains the Human Resource Information System (HRIS).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Benefits
Pension plan administration – respond to questions and resolve discrepancies, create reports, assist with development and maintenance of employee communication materials, coordinate pension eligibility and enrollment and perform pension estimates.
Health administration – assist in management of 3 rd
party vendors, including system compliance with benefit plan eligibility rules and monitoring of service.
Benefit plan compliance – keep current on regulations and ensure compliance with provincial and federal laws for all benefits plans.Maintain and update plan documents and notices as required due to plan design or regulation changes.
Benefit plan cost analysis – monitor and analyze experience of all benefit plans and vendors, including identification of trends and preparation and maintenance of a variety of reports.
Prepare benefit communications (printed & web) for new hire enrollment and ongoing enrollment/education.
Prepare monthly billings and ensure timely and accurate payment of vendors.
Assist with disability program initiatives.
Administers company-wide wellness initiatives.
HRIS/Other
HR Systems – research and answer HR end user questions and work with IS staff in diagnosing and resolving system issues where necessary, including any issues with data feeds to providers,recommend procedural modifications to aid in system processing, perform testing for any system upgrades and assist with pulling reports and data analysis as required and prepare system procedural documentation necessary to ensure consistent user processing of personnel transactions
Reporting – recommend, design, compile, generate and distribute timely and accurate standard and ad-hoc reports with Infinium, Excel or other reporting tools.Provides analysis and interpretation of report data, as required.
Identify opportunities to improve Rewards processes, including preparing and analyzing regular management and audit reports and ensuring integrity of the HRIS and other systems.
Other projects/duties as assigned or needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources management, or finance or equivalent combination of training and experience
Advanced knowledge of benefits and compensation policies, practices, and applicable laws is required
Strong analytical and project management skills and attention to detail
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload, take initiative and manage multiple tasks without close supervision, and adapt to changes while consistently meeting deadlines.
Ability to use good judgment and discretion with highly confidential and sensitive personnel information
Advanced Microsoft Office skills and working knowledge of HR systems, preferably Infinium and SAP.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Required Length & Type of Experience:
Minimum1-3 years of progressive human resources experience including experience in employee benefits and compensation
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and telephone keyboard and talk or hear.
Requires visual acuity to focus on desktop and/or laptop computer screen.
Requires standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time, talking and listening.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Typically work is in an office environment where the noise level is low to moderate.
